Merina Users Come In

So I have an appointment to receive Merina on Thursday.  After reading more information about it, I'm kinda freaked out by it.   Particularly the threads. Can you feel them?  Can your partner feel them? And, how are you supposed to check them?

Please put my mind at ease.  Thanks!

Re: Merina Users Come In

  • I had it after my first DS and plan on getting it again soon. DH couldn't feel it and neither could I. I tried to check it a few times and couldn't feel it then either. I never had any problems with it. :)

I had it after DD and will be getting it after my 6 weeks pp check. DH said he could occasionally feel the strings but it never bothered him.

Eta: I never felt the strings and checking them was really easy (TMI) you just stick a finger up there and feel for the strings.
  • I had it placed after DD three years ago, DH could feel it but he wasn't bothered by it. I had to have it removed because the threads went up into my uterus and it was affecting my moods. Best birth control ever, I'm not good with taking pills everyday.
  • I had it prior to this pregnancy for 3+ years and loved it. If you read about any of the bc methods, you will find the bad stories that can sound scary.
I found Mirena to be painless, and like pp said, could feel strings if I dug around for em, but DH never felt them. I have a friend who had it, and her SO could feel them, but her OB just trimmed them. I hope you enjoy it. It's so nice to never have to think about it! Good luck.

  • I had it three times.

The first time it fell out.

The second time I had it, it started to fall out but got stuck in my cervix, and I ended up with a UTI that I didn't get any symptoms, and got highly sick, I ended up in and out of the ER, and they thought something was wrong with my brain. I wasn't able to stay awake, not keep anything down, couldn't walk, and puked every five minutes.

I got it put back in, and went on vacation with my now husband and bled the entire time I was down there, so we sat in our cabin because I couldn't do anything because I was bleeding what looked like a murder scene.

I'd look into getting the paragaurd.
