Weight gain

This is my first pregnancy. In the past it drove me nuts to hear pregnant women complain about feeling fat... You're pregnant, not fat! But now I feel fat. I keep thinking about how much weight I've gained so far and how much I'm gonna gain and that ill probably never lose it...anybody else?

Re: Weight gain

  • You can lose it if you really want to & make it a priority. I gained 50 & lost 60 within the first year of ds's life.

  • I wouldn't worry as much about not losing it.  I gained about 30 pounds with my first and then lost 45 pounds before he was a year old.  I'm not saying I gave birth and then hopped into my skinny jeans but it happens if you work at it (breastfeeding definitely helped!)

I have the same philosophy as Sammy!! I definity indulge much more than I use to and I am fully enjoying my pregnancy!! I do however try to keep up on my exercise and not use it as an excuse to eat everything and anything I feel!! I try to tell myself what goes on must come off and I know if I keep somewhat of a balance now I will be thanking myself come May!! That's not to say I haven't had waaaaaaay too much chocolate and cake over the past few weeks but I do try to make up for it with cleaner meals when I can :) Remember healthy mommy = healthy baby!!

Don't stress :) you are pregnant for such a short time in the long run!! Just enjoy yourself and those treats!!!!!

    Moderation is key! IMO :)

  • It was really hard for me to lose the baby weight (I was breastfeeding and thought the weight would just "fall off." Nope.) after my son. But I did! It took me a year and I used my "me time" to exercise. It was really good for me and for awhile I was in the best shape of my adult life. That gives me hope that the weight I gain with this baby will also come off.

  • I relate! I feel like I'm gaining a pound every day or two. Blah. I keep trying to look at the bright side. But you're not the only one! Hope it gets better.

  • I gained 50lbs with DD and lost it all by 9 months PP. no diet, no exercise, only breastfeeding. I did still look 6 months pregnant though so in retrospect I should have tried to make time for the gym, but I can work on it after this LO

  • I am okay with it, but the thought has crossed my mind. I am carrying all out front so far and have only gained 5lbs, but it looks like I gained 15. I am much bigger than I should be at 18 weeks tomorrow. Since I'm so big already it does make me worry how much I will gain/how big I will get. I am enjoying my pregnant figure so far, though.

I would say this is normal to be a little concerned as long as you arent consumed by worrying and what you are eating. I am a healthy eater and I figure that's all the control I have. Other than that baby is taking over.
  • I gained a lot with IF and my DS.  I'm talking about 90 pounds...of course, i did have a bunch of extenuating circumstances - bedrest, pre-e, high calorie diet imposed by doctor, csection, etc.  It did not fall off like everyone told me it would after baby.  In fact, I had to work harder than ever before to get it off.  I had lost 50 pounds before I got pregnant with this one.

To a large part, so long as you aren't over-indulging (believe it or not, I wasn't with that 90 pounds, but bedrest plus a high calorie/high protein diet will pack on the pounds!  Probably 20 pounds of that was from the ensure I had to drink every couple of hours), you can't do alot about it.  But to the extent that you can make healthier choices, not over-indulge and continue to exercise, do so.

  • It can be a little intimidating, for sure. But I gained 53 pounds with DS and lost all of it, plus a few more. It did take a little over a year though to lose ALL of it, but the first 5 months I lost about 30 of that. I had to try really hard to get it off which I wasn't expecting. But now that I have done it, I know I can do it again!

  • I know how you feel. I've had to watch my weight my whole life to not be pudgy. I gained 38 lbs with DD (I'm only 5'1) and thought I'd have trouble losing the weight. The first 20 fell off in the first month. The rest I had to work for (even though I pumped for four months). At about ten months pp I was back to the weight I was at when I got prego, but that was on the heavy side for me. So I joined a fitness challenge and got serious about diet and exercise. I lost an additional 12 lbs and was in the best shape of my life when I got pregnant this time. Now the weight is coming back (and it will prob be at least as much as last time bc this time I'm expecting twins). It feels a little overwhelming knowing Ill have lose the weight again, but I know I can do it... And so can you! Enjoy this time and try to embrace your new body. You're growing a human after all. :)

As long as your doctor isn't worried about your weight gain, you shouldn't either. With my first I gained 40 pounds and by time he was 10 days old, I had lost 30 of it. So much of the weight you gain is fluid and tissue and baby, it's not like you're gaining all fat. Don't stress!

This is exactly what happened with me. I had trouble with the last 10 pounds but...when I started working out I was toning. But I still wouldn't lose them...then I found out I was pregnant, again! Lol

  • Thanks everyone. I've been thin my whole life and have been very blessed with a fast metabolism and I don't have to work hard really at all to stay thin. I think losing the weight is so intimidating because I've never had to do it before. Which I should just be thankful for and shut up :)
