Florida mom headed to NY for xmas, need help

Hi Ladies!  We leave this weekend on a road trip to visit family for the holidays. I need lot's off suggestions.  I'm not sure what layers with what.  I'm panicked about coats and car seats.  How do I make it all work?  I'm doing "research" but just like every other parenting topic, there is a lot of contradictory advice.  I'm looking for real experience.

Also, because we are driving with 4 adults and LO, we are trying to pack as lightly as we possibly can.  Rather than our normal stroller, we plan on only taking the umbrella stroller.  I feel like the material will be cold and a blanket won't stay on her.  Any creative solutions?

Thanks in advance for your help!  I've tried reading some similar posts, but I'm still very confused.

    will you be spending much time outdoors? If not - it won't be that complicated.

    We have a warm fleece (Champion brand, from Target) for LO that we use as his day-to-day coat. He also has a warm hat and mittens. We heat up the car before we bring him outside, and once he's in the carseat (outside for not more than a minute at a time, most days) we put more blankets on him if it's still a bit cool.  We also put shoes / slippers on him for outside, but they typically come off once we're inside.

    If he's only in a shirt (rather than a onesie) we put a short sleeved onesie underneath his shirt in case his shirt rides up when we're holding him.

    That's pretty much it. BUT... if you're outside for long, you'll need to bundle him up more than that... we have a warm snowsuit we use for walks in the cold weather, and a warm coat... but he's only worn the snowsuit once and the coat... um... never?

    I think we're supposed to be indoors most of the time, but we are taking 1 day trip into the city to see the tree lit up at Rockerfeller Center.  We have a coat for that day.

    Does the poncho work for strollers too?

    i use big binder clips (out of his reach) to clip blankets to his car seat/stroller while we're out so he doesn't kick them to the ground. It works really well.
