Family member adoption?

Hi ladies, I'm a newbie here. My husband and I have an opp. to do a private adoption with a family member. It's my cousins baby, she had been labeled as an unfit mom. She's in New Mexico, we are here in California. She has a lawyer already and is excited about us adopting him. Any advice on how we should further proceed or what's next for us?

I'd suggest getting a lawyer in CA, and possibly your own in NM

Start reading up on the laws surrounding that kind of situation where you live. That way you'll be more prepared when you talk to the lawyer. You'll know what questions to ask, and you want spend as much time and money asking basic stuff. Good luck, that's exciting for you and the baby!
