Do HotFlashes mean I need Estrogen?

Ok, so I'm on progesterone... of course. IVF cycle 1. I've had several of the regularly mentioned progesterone side effects, but I've also had hot flashes and some ranges in my body temperature. Someone just told me that I shouldn't have hotflashes with progesterone and that the hot flashes could be a sign of an estrogen dive. I do start the estrogen, but my nurse said not to start the patches until Thursday, which is 6dp3dt.

Anyone have any input on this type of thing?

Thanks (cause now I'm nuts)

  • I did the same protocol as you and never had to take estrogen.  Idk, I always felt cold, like through the entire cycle.

  • I'm normally freezing all day long.  On progesterone I sometimes feel warm which could perhaps be my version of a hot flash?  I also get night sweats while on progesterone.  My body is jacked up though, so take that for what it's worth. :)

  • I called my clinic because I don't want to let my mind run wild with all the potential doom and gloom options available. Basically the nurse said that I should follow my protocol and that I have a lot happening with my hormones and having temperature changes would be considered a normal type of symptom. However, I should call if I am concerned with any of the other symptoms I have. (Or may think I have... not that she said that, but I bet she thinks it on a regular basis!)

Don't feel bad, it's good that you called and it is her job to calm any fears or concerns you may have. However, not to scare you but, if you start to feel like it is not just paranoia, etc. I would not hesitate to SPEAK UP. You know your body better than anyone else. I'm a believer into listening to what our bodies are telling us and I have numerous stories of where I was right and the doctor was wrong.

( ex: I KNEW I broke my toe, I have it looked at doctor says "not broken" I proceeded to GO TO THE GYM and continued AEROBIC exercise thinking that I just needed to "walk it out" WEEKS later, still in pain, I get a second opinion and sure enough -broken toe)

But I bet your hot flashes are simply early pregnant symptoms ;) good luck!
