FF babies: Gerber Good Start?

I had my son on Similac Advance, but switched to Baby's Only in an effort to use an organic formula without DHA/AHA and other questionable ingredients. Sadly it backfired and he had the worst constipation (hard little poops streaked with blood - basically got a  hemmie or fissure from straining so hard). The Similac Advance was making him pretty gassy and fussy as well, so after Baby's Only I started him on Similac Sensitive. He's finally had a normal poop, which is great, but I hate that sugars are the main ingredients.

I'm looking at trying Gerber Good Start Gentle or Protect. Anyone use either of these? How did you/baby like it? I've got a call into my doctor but wanted to get some first hand experience too. Thanks!

I switched from similac advanced to gerber goodstart gentle. It took her a couple of weeks to adjust - she still spits up a lot (I think maybe because it's so thin?) but now she's rarely in pain from gas or from spitting up, thank goodness. My pedi had recommended gentle over the other gerber ones as he wanted her on one that didn't have probiotics.

Sorry also wanted to mention that we used ready to feed in both similac and gerber. Similac used to stain really bad - the gerber doesn't stain as badly.

  • I thought the Gerber Good Starts had DHA as well? I could be wrong though

  • Our DS has been BF and FF since birth.  In the hospital, he drank Similac Advance but it made him wired so when we got home we switched to Gerber Good Start Gentle.  He did well on it but at 4 wks he was having some gassiness so we tried the Soothe brand but that actually made it worse so we went back.  He's now 13 wks and is still BF and supplementing with Gentle - he's doing great!  *Register on their website so that they send you coupons!

  • We use Gerber gentle and he loves it
  • We use gerber soothe and LO does great on it. We started with gentle but it seemed to upset her stomach and made her gassy.
  • We use Gerber soothe and he has also used gentle, he's been on formula only for about two weeks now and had only a few days of belly issues while changing from EBF to the Gerber. We choose the soothe over gentle due to his excessive gassiness and it seems to be working great!
  • My 7 month old has been drinking good start gentle for 6 months. We too switched from similac due to gas.
  • DD was on gerber gentle start from 6 months-1 year.

    She loved it!
  • Gerber was recommended by a pediatric gastro when DS 1 had a milk protein allergy. When I had my second two, they had notes in their hospital bassinets saying if for some reason breastfeeding didn't work, they were to receive Gerber because my hospital gives Similac otherwise.
