Re: Pregnancy Check-in

  • (I am so bad at remembering to do this check in.. I'm sorry!)

I am 16w5d with the twins, EDD is 5/28

So far all the CVS results have come back clean on Baby A (who had the 3.56mm NT and possible fluid spots on the brain), All we are waiting for now from the CVS is to see the results for the noonan syndrome. However, we had another U/S before thanksgiving and they told us that nothing looked out of place. And had we come in then, we would have never been flagged as an issue! Still, I am holding my breath for the anatomy scan, so we can check the heart...Such a rollercoaster!

As for me, I am feeling pretty good. No real nausea anymore- and I am eating bagels and cream cheese like they are going out of style. Which I guess is good because I have to pack on some weight for these kids! My wife and I had a gender reveal party the other weekend, and now everyone knows Baby A is a boy and Baby B is a girl! We've decided to keep the names a secret, but it's nice to refer to them as he or she now.

QOTW: I don't usually, my main goal is to make it through this pregnancy the best I can and try not to worry too much about the future reality of juggling two babies at once!

I have been feeling pretty good these days. We had our anatomy scan on Thurs and baby looks great! Measuring right on target, and as stubborn as ever lol

I have my midwife appointment today at 11, and I am looking forward to chatting with her. These appointments are much more like chatting with a friend rather than beingn rushed by an OB. I'll take it ;)

No New Years resolution... Just looking forward to an awesome new year!

15w6d over here. EDD is June 3, 2014.

Feeling pretty decent most of the time. Which has totally made me a nut case because I have convinced myself that I no longer "feel pregnant" most of the time since I am not nauseas and feeling sick all day long at this point. I am less tired than I was in the 1st tri, but still more tired that my usual self. I have more emotional moments where I cry for no reason. About once a week this happens. I cried last night because I said to my wife "I am sorry if I have become a complainer" and she didn't immediately tell me that I have not. HAHA. So I cried and apologized for being a difficult pregnant woman. I don't really think I am THAT difficult, if I am being honest. It is an adjustment though, because I think I am more emotionally needy, which is hard for me to accept.

To be filed under that category of "whacky symptoms," yesterday I was out running errands and doing some Chirstmas shopping and I found that my legs got sore and I seemed to have pain in both of my hips. It seems WAY too early for such nonsense, but I have never experienced that feeling/discomfort before, so the only thing I can really attribute it to is pregnancy. After about an hour on the couch when I got home, it felt better. Strange. I am hoping it was just a fluke.

1 week until our next OB appointment and ultrasound to try and tell the sex of the baby! I am very excited and very nervous. It will be almost 5 weeks since our last ultrasound by then, and I have really missed seeing the baby frequently and having that reassurance that all is well. My wife tells me that everything is just fine, and I know that the odds are that everything is in fact just fine (I have no evidence to make me think otherwise, and our 12 week ultrasound was great and the genetic testing came back fine), but I still worry. I can't wait to start showing a bit more and start to feel movement.

QOTW: I hadn't really thought about New Year's Resolutions at all until this morning when I posted this... I don't think I will have any resolutions per se, but hopefully the new year will bring me a bit more calm and a bit less worry related to pregnancy. I will work on that! I also will try to make healthy choices more often than not when it comes to eating. Other than that, I hope to just live in the moment and enjoy each milestone that we are lucky enough to celebrate.

  • @KH826 I was having a rough day with hip pain about a month ago.In first noticed it when I was walking down the stairs...it hurt quite bad. I asked my doula and she said it was likely a result of the relaxin hormone... It's busy loosening things and such. I took it easy for a bit and did some stretches and it seemed to help :)

    Holy moly my first pregnancy check-in! I am 4w5d - EDD 8/20/13

Well, at this point there's not a ton to report. My boobs are insane already, like the first time. I am reminded now the difference between progesterone boobs and pregnant-progesterone boobs. They look fantastic though, fwiw. :) Other than that, nothing much yet. I went back to my pregnancy blog from Babykins last year at this time and it seemed I started to feel rotten around 7w. So I have a couple weeks to get stuff done - though I know every pregnancy is different. I was also super crampy until about 8w and haven't had much of that, but this being a second pregnancy, I suppose it's possible my uterus remembers what to do a little bit. Either way, I'm happy to feel ok.

Emotionally all is ok for the moment. Our first u/s is 12/26 which is around the corner, but of course will seem farther away as it gets closer. Fortunately a work trip this week, plus the holidays, will make it go fast.

So I am seeing an MFM for this pregnancy - a far cry from my ideal midwife birth had in mind. But honestly, it's amazing to me how much I've let go of from the last time. I realize now that all these things I wanted don't matter - I just want a live, healthy, full-term baby and healthy mom. (I'm specific, as last time I said "I just want to get thru the first tri!" and then lost baby at 16w). So, the MFM is the high-tech pregnancy, and I'm sure I'll find aspects of it sucky but overall, I like that all u/s' are Level 2, etc.

I don't know that I've shared this - but after some soul-searching, we decided to go with the MFM who we went to for a second opinion after our loss. The baby died due to a total fluke blood clot in the umbilical cord (1 in 1000 in the second tri). Still, we tested me for clotting disorders though they are typically unrelated. I tested borderline and based on a variety of other factors, the 1st MFM said no treatment would be necessary for a future pregnancy. However, our 2nd opinion doc said another route would be a low-dose, prophylactic level treatment because "we don't know what we don't know" in some cases. J loved this idea. So, assuming all goes well next Thursday, I'll start Lovenox shots daily for the first 6 months. I'm not sure if we'll go to heparin then, or just end it (though I'd be nervous about that). I also read on the high-risk board that most women on blood thinners stop taking them and then are induced a week before their due date. Boo. I do not want to be induced...but alas, I'm just going to have to let go of all these attachments I have.

I guess the other thing that is on my mind of course is averting all the fear of losing this baby too. Weirdly, I have almost no worries about an early loss (though i suppose I ought to) - but I get scared of a later loss again. I'm sure I'm like most PAGL moms-to-be, you just muddle through day by day.

@KH826 - I love you are at 15w6d! Here's the thing - J reminds me all the time "honey, when we lost our baby at 16w, 999 women in their second tri got to keep theirs." Somehow that let me feel better, and I know yours is one of those keepers. Normal to worry but the odds are really, really low for you. Go baby! I can't wait to hear the gender!

QOTW: Nothing really - most of my focus willbe on a healthy pregnancy and having a baby! :)

  • @KLeigh1- I am glad to hear that telling your parents went better than you expected. Good luck with your ultrasound tomorrow! Do you have an OB selected?

@Pinkspark - When is your anatomy scan? So glad that you are feeling pretty well at this point, and yay for 1 boy and 1 girl! Amazing! :)

@YBnormal85 - I hope you have a great midwife appointment today, and thank you for sharing your experience with your hip pain. Makes me feel a little less crazy about my own hip pain. I hadn't even thought that is might be hormonal, but that makes sense. Here's hoping neither of us experience that again for a while though!

@mamosey - Wow, 31 weeks! Where does the time go? So sorry that you had that scare and trip to L&D, but so glad that things seem to be A-OK right now. When is your next appointment?

@2mamazinSeattle - First of all, so glad to hear that your boobs look fantastic! LOL Also, that things seem to be going well emotionally so far - you are such a strong lady! 12/26 will be here before you know it! Can't wait to hear how your u/s goes. Thank you for the reassuring kind words that you had for me. I know that the odds are very much in favor of baby being just fine, this just seems to be a difficult stage for me emotionally, and I have a lot of anxiety about the fact that I "don't know what's going on in there" all the time. I am hoping that after this appointment I will start feeling movement ahead of my January appointment, and that will help during the down time between appointments. Thanks again for telling me what I needed to hear! :)

  • Midwife appointment went well! We discussed ways to get more iron in my diet since my gummy prenatals don't have iron. She suggested black strap molasses and also cooking in a cast iron pan. Thought that was interesting! My plan is to avoid the iron pills the OB gave me, I hope my tummy thanks me ;)

I also take the gummy prenatals (with the fiber and calcium gummy supplement), because all the other prenatals I tried made me sick during the 1st tri. I have been trying to eat other iron-rich foods to supplement also. My three favorites are:

    • Baked potato with the skin on (the skin is rich in iron)
    • Spinach (I love spinach anyway, but I have substituted spinach for lettuce in my salads and I usually eat cooked spinch in light butter with parmesan cheese a few times a week as a side with dinner)
    • Watermelon (so it isn't in season right now, so it is expensive, but it is yummy with breakfast or as an after dinner snack and it is high in iron also)

  • @KH826 thanks for those other ideas! Unfortunately I am not a big fan of many of the healthy things I should be eating :-/ My lack of interest in leafy greens and such are much worse now that I'm expecting... So I'm trying to look into all my food and other options. Lol I actually like two of those three options you gave me though! Yay :)

  • 20 weeks and 6 days today, EDD 4/29/14.  Feeling pretty good, just heartburn and I think I have a minor pregnancy waddle :-(  Early this time because my belly is seriously huge. I can't imagine how much bigger it will get!!  I'll post a pic later this week.
I've been super emotional lately (@KH826 I can totally relate!)  I burst into tears several times a day now.  EV says I'm being grumpy too but I don't see it. I feel fine inside, just a little tired.  ;-) But we talked about it yesterday and I explained that I just feel so overwhelmed at times. It's really weird - I feel like a different person.

We have our anatomy scan on Thursday. I'm a little nervous but trying to focus on the positive. Hopefully baby is healthy and thriving in there. I love seeing him though. :-) It's a little sad that EV won't be there with me. The u/s place doesn't allow kids so she is going to stay with Kaden while I go.

I told my parents our name, and I think they were moved since its my maiden name I'm using for his middle name.  I guess we're sticking with it ;-)  Of course I've been calling the baby "Owen" so I kind of feel like its his first name already.

@2Mamasinseattle - so glad to see you here!! :-)  I totally get the PGAL brain, I had a 2nd trimester loss too (though at 13.5w) and its just not supposed to happen.  It was so nerve racking to be pregnant with Kaden. I wanted our take home baby sooooo badly, and although in my heart I intuitively felt he was going to be that I was scared. Every day. But I muddled through (good word choice) and somewhere (after 12 weeks then  20 weeks, then after 30 weeks) I started feeling celebratory. It took longer because I was nervous. Me personally, I feel really good about all the current pregnancies :-)  I see a bunch of new Bump babies in 2014 joining those of 2013.  I hope that you get nice and nauseous soon to help ease your mind ;-)

@KLeigh1 - so glad you got positive responses from you family. I hope your dad continues to warm to the idea - good luck surviving the holidays :-)

@Mamosey - I'm sorry for the scare. I hope baby stays put a few more weeks. It sounds like you are in good hands.

@Pinkspark - Thrilled to hear the good news about Baby A - FX you get more good news during your anatomy scan. Congrats too on your little boy & girl!! ;-)

@KH826 - Sometimes I wish I owned my own u/s machine so I could peek in there and see what baby is up to :-)  Hope time flies for you until your next appointment.  I'm sure you'll start feeling baby soon too. Are you finding out the gender?  Any preferences?

@YBNormal85 - hope you have a great appointment today.  I love meeting with a midwife you get so much time, and so much information. After having Kaden I felt like I had several books worth of knowledge crammed in my head from our wonderful midwife.

QOTD:  No official resolutions yet - but I've been grappling with some life questions that I hope the New Year will bring clarity on.  Also I'd love to join the gym.  Fingers crossed we can swing it financially.

  • @Jazibel - Good luck with your anatomy scan on Thursday! Hopefully you will get some great pics that will be PIP worthy that day! :)

Also, we will be finding out the gender, and we absolutely can't wait to find out. We are hoping we will find out at our next appointment (my OB has said she is going to try, if baby cooperates), but if not we will find out at our anatomy scan on 1/15. Preference is just for a healthy baby! With that being said, I know my wife really wants a girl (and honestly, I do too), but I have been thinking it is a boy (for reasons I cannot articulate, just a "feeling"), so I have been getting excited about the possibility of a boy too. Honestly, I will be excited either way. I just want to know!!!

If we do find out on the 23rd, and if it is a boy, my wife and I will have a 6+ hr drive to Boston immediately following our appointment to continue our great name debate. We have our girl's name locked and loaded, but we have been waivering on a boy's name. Should make for an interesting car ride, if that is how it shakes out! This is a problem that I hope to have -- just hoping that baby is doing well in there!

  • 10w6d EDD July 7th

Last week was brutal. I have never wanted to sleep so much in my life, even more than during and after finals of both of my degrees. And not just sleep, but do absolutely nothing. So far today is better. We'll see come 5:00 though. The nausea/food aversion seems to be lessening too which is nice.

We found out on Saturday night that my best friend is pregnant. They started trying the month after we did and were soooo hoping to have babies at the same time and have them grow up as besties. They are due a month after us. It was so funny, she really tricked us. We were the only ones that knew they were trying and last time she told us when AF showed. This time she told me she got a BFN at10 DPO and then silence for a week. I wanted to ask so badly, but know how annoying that can be so we patiently waited. We met up at a comedy show and DW and I had decided that we wouldn't ask, but we'd wait to see if she ordered a beer or not. She did and DW and I looked at each other so sad. After the beer came she said "Okay I can't really drink this" We were sooo happy and hugged forever.

No New Year's resolutions for us. Goals for sure, but they are always just ongoing. I really want the house all ready and painted before baby gets here.

Did I mention, 10w!!!! (and one day).  :)  EDD 7/13/14.

  • My EDD is 7/19/14, I have been feeling sick to the stomach most of the time but other then that no real food aversions. After my blood work at my first OB appointment I was put on iron supplements which have really helped with being tired all the time.

Still nervous to tell my mom but I know I have to tell her before she leaves for Florida for the rest of the winter.  I wish that being worried about how she is going to react wasn't making me less excited about the entire thing but it just is.

I am so excited for my next u/s which is Jan 9th. I haven't gotten to see the baby since 6w4d so I am def ready to see this little one again.

So excited for all the new faces in pregnancy checkin!!!!

  • Due date August 6th, so 6 weeks and 5 days (my best guess based on when I ovulated).  First midwife visit isn't until January 8th and my wife and I can't wait!  I warned her that there may not be an ultrasound at this visit but she doesn't care, she took the day off work anyway.

I'm doing okay.  Nausea/queasiness is increasing but I've yet to puke.  My nutritional situation is a bit weirder than most (I had a lesser-known weight loss surgery about 3.5 years ago that means I tend to be deficient in fat soluble vitamins - A, D, E, and K), so maybe that affects my morning sickness, too.  I got my p-doc to draw my 80,000 vitamin levels about 2 weeks ago and everything came back normal except my A and K were just under optimal range, so I've ordered additional supplements from VitaLady (yay for sublinguals!) to cover those.

Have already gained a cup and a half of boob size (starting from a B, so it's pretty noticeable).  Still had a few C's left from my weight loss journey but I suspect I may size out of those in another week or two and actually have to go bra shopping.  The girls are still a touch tender but nowhere near as bad as they were for the last two weeks, so that's something.

Very, very tired, seemingly all the time.  Been doing lots of napping, when I can.  My body has also decided that pretty much every night I must wake up at some point in the middle of the night (usually 4 or 5 a.m.) in order to pee and will then be awake for an hour before being able to go back to sleep.  Annoying, but good practice for middle of the night feedings, yes?

Perhaps my weirdest symptom is everytime I blow my nose the snot from the right nostril is bloody.  Never the left, but always the right.  Random.  However, since nosebleeds are a pregnancy symptom I just look at it as continued confirmation that I am pregnant.

No significant weight gain yet but pants are definitely feeling tighter.  Mild cravings, mild aversions, nothing to write home about.

My wife and I are meeting with a prospective doula on Sunday, which is exciting!  We are also in the process of moving to a new apartment (same town at least), which is a pain in the ass, although I don't get affected by it as much since she won't let me lift anything more than 5 pounds (she even looks at my laptop bag suspiciously).

This is my first pregnancy and we are both super-excited.  I am also super-paranoid, too - there are so many PGALs on here that I can't help but be terrified about miscarriage (especially at my age - 35 - there will only be so many more chances, you know?) even though as far as I know I'm not at any increased risk.  Every time I pee (all 12,000 times a day) I check for blood.  Nothing so far, thank goddess.

    Anyway, enough rambling...
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @kboydbowman I hear ya on the boobs. I started out as a B and I swear they are still getting bigger every day. I decided to wear one of my wife's bras yesterday a C and it was too small. I guess it's time to go shopping. I can't imagine getting bigger than a D, but there is still a long ways to go. It's crazy.

Her boobs are still really tender but I keep reassuring her will be gone soon ; ) We see the doctor again on 8th to hear the heartbeat!! My wife has CP so we have to see a specialist to see if her tilt in her pelvis will make her a candidate for a c-section. Probably not!! We would love to do a water birth!
It's crazy.
I started out as a C-cup and I am currently busting out of a D. I was just commenting earlier today that I think I will need to upgrade to a DD before Christmas. The thought of this is totally insane to me, but it is what it is. I am at the point now where I am having a difficult time getting tops that fit me b/c my boobs are so big. My back is also starting to hurt a bit, and I am not sure if this is just a part of pregnancy, or if it is related to my gigantic breasts that are now weighing me down. The whole thing is actually kind of comical at this point. I imagine that if they keep growing, I will look like a cartoon character pretty soon!

I started off as a large C and went up to a DD probably around 4/5 months. Never had to go up a size again. They will plateau at some point!

But then comes the BF... I'm not even gonna say what size I'm wearing now!

  • @YBNormal85, do you like breakfast cereal? I impulse-bought a single-serving cup of Life today while I was at the 7-11 buying seltzer, and while I was waiting in line to pay I noticed that it has 80% of your RDA of iron. Most big-brand commercial breakfast cereals are fortified with vitamins and minerals (including lots of folic acid!) so they tend to be good sources of lots of those things (I've noticed most of the natural brands available at WF, Trader Joe's etc are not fortified). I don't actually eat cereal for breakfast but I do have it as a snack sometime, with or without milk.

  • @ball.and.chain Yes! I have been eating a generic brand of mini wheats for iron and they have 90%! Of course that is for a non pregnant woman...but I'll take it! :)
