Veggie Finger Foods

My twins are doing great with steamed/soft fruit, cheese, beans, meat, etc but I'm having trouble finding age appropriate veggie finger foods. Any suggestions? Right now we do peas, cubed steamed sweet potato, corn, and avocado (maybe a fruit?). Still doing veggie purées, but would love to add more finger foods. I don't know that they could handle broccoli yet (not puréed) or spinach/kale. What are you all doing?

Re: Veggie Finger Foods

  • I do all of your list plus steamed broccoli and cauliflower, steamed carrots, steamed green beans.
  • Loading the player...
  • we do broccoli and caulifour  cut very tiny. i do steamed carrots and cut them into cubes.  i also put veggies cut up into eggs for DS for breakfast.
  • We have given dd almost every veggie that has been mentioned. We just give her what we are eating, she loves to play with the spinach and outs it in her mouth but it usually gets spit back out and fed to the dogs. Her favorite veggie seems to e asparagus. She doesn't swallow a whole lot of it, she just knaws on it forever. We give her half a stalk and it's easy for her to grip and he chews one end until it's all floppy and mushy then flips it over and chews on it again. We do blw so we have been giving her finger foods the whole time, in a variety of small pea size pieces or longer strips that's are easier to grab. We bake some veggies to soften ad send in her lunches to grandmas or for snacks. He really like sweet potatoes cut into strips and baked, we usually do combination trays so we may include some zucchini, potaotoes, apples, carrots or whatever else we have. We just season them and bake them so we have a little Tupperware of some quick soft fruits and veggies.

What do you season your veggies with? I've done cinnamon on sweet potatoes, but other than that have been serving them plain. Thanks!

spinach and kale are kind of tough to chew without molars.  I would do lightly steamed carrot sticks, zuccini, turnip, jicama and roasted bell peppers.
When DS1 was about a year old, he loved english muffins with cream cheese and roasted red pepper slices.
That sounds delicious DC. I would eat that! Then again, I'd eat mostly anything with cream cheese! :P

  • We did broccoli, cauliflower, and red peppers last night and he loved them. He loves steamed carrots and peas. I'm having a hard time getting mine to eat fruit.

We mostly do evoo with with sea salt on our veggies, we have done cinnamon on apples, carrots and sweet potatoes. We did parm cheese on regular potatoes, and sweet potatoes and we have done cheddar cheese one broccoli and cauliflower. We just started adding this stuff because I want her to enjoy the natural taste of the foods and my rely to much on adding extras.

  • You could also add corn on the cob. Especially if your baby is teething the cob feels good on their gums. I don't remember seeing green beans either? And also squash.
