Iris loved chewing on steamed broccoli. She also likes feeding herself pre-loaded spoons of pureed food. She was really into pureed carrots with bok choy and a little yakisoba broth.
Anything that didn't work out so well?
She tried chicken a couple of times, but I'm not ready for the gagging. I can read about how it's normal all day--we're waiting a month or two before we give her any other meats to chew on.
What made the best mess? (PIP wouldn't hurt!)
Steamed sticks of butternut squash. It took awhile to get it all out of her eyebrows!
I was planning on doing BLW, but my mom side-tracked us by pureeing sweet potatoes and freezing it into little ice cubes so we're doing purees for the moment. I'm sort of glad though because I'm not sure I'm ready for the gagging either...

We've only tried a small handful of foods (avocado, sweet potato, banana (rolled in smashed cheerios to make them more grippy)) and sweet potato is the only real winner so far. I think the avocado and banana have been too difficult to handle for him. We roasted the sweet potato, so it was easy to grip. He definitely has eaten some of it (just comes straight out the other end it appears) - but he still gets a really surprised look every time he actually gets some in his mouth. He looks a bit disgusted at the time, but carries on eating it. It's amusing.
The slippery avocado and banana were our not working out so well foods. Alas. I think the next foods we introduce will be easier to handle.
The best mess was probably avocado. Although it oxidized pretty quickly and looked pretty gross :-P
We aren't doing BLW but I gave LO one of those baby mum mums last night and he kept choking himself on it and it scares the crap out of me! We may be doing purées for a while...
Upon recommendation from the pedi, we are waiting until after the new year to start solids (or re-start rather) He will be 6.5 months and daycare is pushing for us to go straight to BLW...I'm scared/excited!!
