Reset my LO

Yet another sleep related post:

So I have to push the reset button on my baby.  His feet are hanging off the RnP and his head is an inch away from the top, yet he refuses to sleep anywhere else besides there, the swing, or car seat.  We have a bedtime routine in place.  Bath, lotion, pajamas, sleep sack, book, nurse, bed.  As soon as he gets into the crib, he rolls onto his belly, his arms straighten, and he starts crying.  I pick him up, comfort him, put him back on his back, he rolls again.

I've stopped picking him up and now I just pat his back until he figures out how to relax his arms to fall asleep.  There is a crib wedge in there but he refuses to lie on his back so I'm going to take it out.  We've tried the crib for naps and it's the same story.  Our sound machine is on white noise as well.  I've even tried the projection turtle but he's not on his back to enjoy the show.  I'm not opposed to CIO and my pediatrician said that he would try that next.  He's now on a strike from all naps and is over exhausted unless we put him in the car seat, RnP, or swing. He won't even sleep on me!

HELP :((

Re: Reset my LO

  • No help here.. I just posted asking for CIO tips. It looks like that's where we are headed. Hang in there :( I know it's hard but your not alone.

  • Well, this is really just another crutch - one I wish I hadn't ended up using because I'll be spending my winter break weaning - but maybe give the Magic Sleepsuit a try?

My LO was doing the whole rolling onto the belly and crying thing too.  I couldn't take the lack of sleep so I put the sleepsuit on him, and it works.

At least you would get LO out of the RNP...
  • I just priced out a $2000 a night sleep trainer for babies. You basically pay them to do the dirty work and listen to your kid cry. Might be worth it, but it's not going to happen on our budget. I wish I had money :(

He's too fat for a sleep suit.  I just see this all night:  (it's not 63 degrees in there.  That temperature is wrong.)image

When my DD wouldn't sleep & I was transitioning her, I didn't give in...which is hard. I slept in a recliner next to the crib, on the floor, holding her hand. It didn't take long before she only wanted to sleep in her crib. Don't give up, it will happen:)
I've been sleeping on a small couch in his room for two weeks now.  I usually cave by midnight and he ends up in the RnP until 6, then in the swing until 9.  I've created some bad habits and I need to break them.  The sad part is that I'm losing my happy baby in the process.  Mother of the year here :((

  • Aw, little chubster.  My LO used to be pudgy, but now he won't stop moving.  I'm worried the doc is going to say he hasn't gained enough weight.  But enough about me...

I think I'm out of advice.  I tried weaning my guy out of the sleepsuit about a week ago.  The first night I put him down without it (he was mostly asleep but not in deep sleep) and after a lot of rolling and crying, I ended up holding the side of his PJ's back so he couldn't roll onto his tummy.  He was basically stuck on his side because I wouldn't let him go far enough to get to his stomach.  I held onto the PJ's until he fell asleep.

However, after several wake ups over the next three nights, I've completely given up and am waiting for winter break when I don't have to function for work.

Good luck!!  I should probably just second what Shoogars said - just don't give up until it works.
  • He locks his elbows and cries. It's pathetic. I'm just going to lock the RnP in a closet and go cold turkey one of these days. He's old enough to sleep in the crib. I'm not even concerned about the two MOTN wake ups he's been doing. I really just want his bed to be his crib from this point forward.

  • When I would put mister to bed he would roll over and I kept going back in and picking him up,a feeding him more til he would just fall asleep on his back.  About 1 1/2-2 weeks ago I said enough he can roll both ways and I let him be.  He rolls over on to his tummy and fusses or cries a little and either fall asleep on his tummy or sometimes would roll back onto his back and fall asleep.  I do go in there if he is really crying.  I pick him up, feed him a little more and put him back in the crib.  My pedi said it is fine if they sleep on their stomach since he is rolling there.  I don't know if this helps.  I think they eventually learn that you can be on your tummy and sleep it's not just about "tummy time".
  • Thanks @SilverEF. The thing with him is that he'll cry for up to an hour on and off and fall asleep on his tummy after giving up. That tummy sleep has lasted at most an hour and a half. I have not issues with feeding him a ton. I'll try and cut that out once he sleeps in the crib without a struggle.

  • It took my LO awhile to figure out how to relax while on his stomach. He was so used to tummy time that he was confused. I just had to let him cry in order for him to eventually relax. He can now roll over onto his stomach with no problems and fall asleep.
  • @phishgirl29 we have been putting mister int he crib since the first night he was home and still rolls over and cries.  Our issue is he has never napped in the crib and now will only nap in his carseat.  That is an improvement from only falling asleep if in the car or going for a walk. I just don't know how to get him to nap in the crib.
