Table Food

I really want to start giving my DS more table food. I will be home from work the week between Christmas and New Years so I figured this would be a great time to start. Any suggestions on what to give him for lunch. Breakfast and dinner are fairly easy. But would take suggestions for those meal times as well.

Thanks!

Re: Table Food

  • Breakfast: Yogurt with any type of berries....scrambled eggs with cheese and/or veggies...toast...multi grain waffles

Lunch: anything you would give for dinner really so we do ravioli or any type of small pasta with meatball...we have done grilled cheese...i would also do pasta with steamed carrots and peas (or a veggie of your choosing)...cubes of butternut squash...a cheesestick with fruit....chicken noodle soup

if your DS hasnt done too much food yet make sure to give it a min of 2 days to watch for allergies....esp with eggs/dairy/gluten!

  • Thank you both for you help! He is 10 months old and I really want to start giving him more table food. He has had some chicken here and there, pasta and soft veggies. His pediatrician suggested to start him on egg yokes first before giving him a whole egg. He loves the Gerber yogurt so I figured that is good for breakfast and snacks. And pastina with cheese. I just thought cheese should wait until he was a year old because of it being dairy?
  • Some things I've given DD for lunch include toast with a little jelly on it, bits of cheese or lunch meat, yogurt, cooked mixed veggies, applesauce, and cut up peaches or cooked apples. We also do leftovers from dinner when I have them, so that helps (things like pasta, meatballs, sausage, chicken, fish fillets, mac and cheese).

Breakfast is almost always a banana or some other kind of fruit. I think I'm going to try a whole wheat waffle tomorrow with some fruit puree on top. I'm sure she'll like that... she's just like her mama, loves her carbs, haha!

cheese and yogurt are very good for babies as a source of calcium! Few reasons its different than WCM: first, some drs are worried about introducing WCM early and having a baby prefer that over BM or formula, that really has more vitamins and nutrients babies need when they are little. Also, lactose is already broken down in yogurt and cheese in a way that it isnt in WCM, so LO can process it better at a younger age. There are no issues with yogurt/cheese for LO now...

  • We just give dd whatever we are having, since we are Doing blw. This has been really great for mommy and daddy too, because it has forced us to be a lot healthier because we know dd is eating as well. I think you will love beig able to let you lo feed themselves, it is built in entertainment while you eat your meal. Don't e suprises if as first you lo isn't swallowing a whole lot.

For breakfast we give dd oatmeal, yogurt, whole grain waffles are her favorite (no syrup), while grain pancake coins that I mix I. Different t fruits and veggies into the badder when I make hers. Cheese sticks, yogurts, grapes multigrain Cheerios. Toast and a tiny bit of preserves

For lunch, chicken, turkey, grapes, cheese sticks, crackers ad cracker type stuff (goldfish and graham crackers) veggie fries (just different veggies I cut into strips and bake. Baked apples, soups, pasta.

Dinners, pretty much everything we eat. We have a lot of asparagus right now because she go so town everytime we have it, even growling an moaning as she eats it.

Dd is obsessed with dipping right now, so we give her snack and things that she can dip. This has been awesome for her staying entertained during meal times. She loves graham crackers dipped in yogurt the most.

Our pediatrician said cheese and yogurt are fine at 9 months because the protein gets broken down a bit and they are able to digest it. It's just actual cows milk that is a no-no before a year, because they can't digest the proteins. We haven't done cheese yet (we mostly buy raw milk cheeses, the only pasteurized cheese at the dairy we buy from is mozzarella and paneer) but DD LOVES plain yogurt mixed with fruit or a sweet veggie like butternut squash or beets. Also, yogurt with carrots and apples are a huge hit!

We are just getting more into table foods, but she will eat raw apples (sweeter, softer varieties) cut into small chunks, bread, black beans (I cut those in half), chunks of banana or avocado... I'm going to give orzo a try this week, and she also does well with carrots that are steamed until they are very soft. She still only has two teeth so I am stickin to things I feel confident she can gum, but she's doing well with it so far!

  • Our DS eats mostly what we eat. Last night we had BBQ country style ribs and mashed potatoes. Yep, he ate them (of course cut up into tiny bites but even had the BBQ sauce). He has had chicken, fish, rice, cheese, bread,  pasta, meatballs, eggs, potatoes, veggies, fruits. The only time we don't give him what we are eating is if it is too spicy like chili or curry.

We tried waffles yesterday with apple sauce on them instead of syrup. He ate TWO of them. I guess that is a winner! I am also going to try a recipe I found online that mixes two eggs with a whole banana into a smooth mixture and make pancakes out of it. I am sure it will go over well.

Please share the pancake recipe :)

  • @a13049, the recipe is just 2 eggs beaten together with a banana! That's it. I am probably going to add some vanilla extract and some cinnamon to mine. But you just mix it up to make a batter and pour on your pan like you would to make regular pancakes. I haven't tried it yet, but I have been told it doesn't get as 'fluffy' as regular pancakes but I am sure my DS won't mind.

  • My kid eats everything. I would say to just give him whatever you eat. In particular, my child loves meat.

Yep. that's what my baby looks like! LOL. Love the gif. I can't shovel enough food into his mouth fast enough for him. If I take too long, he smacks his lips at me.
