Comfort nursing

FTM -Little man is almost 3 weeks and has been cluster feeding and not falling asleep at night unless he's at the breast..Going on 2 hours now, feel like I'm going to go nuts if he keeps doing this! Although I believe it's from having gas he probably doesn't feel to great. (Giving him gripe water and gas drops as needed) He falls asleep and un-latches and wakes himself up and gets so upset. :/

Re: Comfort nursing

  • He could be going through the 3 week growth spurt. Try not to stress it should only last a few days of extra needy, gassy, Clingy baby.

For your sanity can he take a Paci though? That might help move him to bed so you can rest.

  • Thanks! He won't take his paci at night , of course !
  • My son did that around 3 weeks. It calmed down after a couple days. I think it was a growth spurt
  • Sounds like a growth spurt. Tiring for you but only lasts a couple of days.

  • When is the next growth spurt? 5-6 weeks? My lo has ate maybe 8 times in the last 5 hours. Can't get anything done. She does the same thing where she will eat til she sleeps and falls off and then wakes up minutes later hungry....
  • We went through that around 3 weeks also, but Thankfully it only lasted a few days. The comfort nursing is annoying, but it's good for milk production. Download some new games on your phone, idk what id do without them in the middle of the night!
  • 3w here and DS did something similar last night. Thankfully we fell into a rhythm (vigorous feeding every 2 hrs, less so the hour in between), so I dosed. Still going strong 1-2 hrs today; where'd the occasional 2.5-3 hrs go? I am very tired - trying for a nap right now...

  • My little guy is 6 weeks and we've gone trough that off and on. When his stomach hurts he can't tell the difference between being hungry or being gassy, all he's learned is that when he nurses it makes him feel better. When he's upset he gumps more air then normal and makes it worse. We have to make and extra effort to burp him every time he feeds to prevent him from getting gassy. It takes 15+ minutes of burping to get it all out at times. Keep with it.
