Bean, bean, who has the bean?

So over the last year or two that I have been stalking forums about TTC.... (Only 20 cycles give or take 5)

I have seen lots of cool little names and references to embryos.... Like snow babies, or sticky vibes... Right?

Well I have also heard sticky bean and little bean. So the other night I am laying with my husband in a progesterone induced fatigue when I say I hope we have sticky beans.

At which point he gave me the Vulcan stare, his eyebrows could not get any more arched... And thought I had lost my mind. I tried to tell him it was just a nickname and he proceeded to inquire why nicknames were needed and why a bean was a good nickname.

So, ladies.... Vocabulary terms for embies and where it came from or why? And no... The facial features in the butt flap of mr potAto don't count. :)

  • I've heard gummy bear also. I always though gummy bear and bean were because that's what the embryo looks like on very early ultrasounds?

This is what I thought too.

  • My hubby calls our current embryo Ethel.  There's no reasoning for it, just a fun name to use.  We called our DD "olive" because that is what size she was the fist time we saw her.
Trying for #2 with IVF after damage done in a D&C left me with one functioning (but too scarred) ovary and tube to get pregnant safely without assistance. It's a really, really long story, but that is the gist of it.  We have one daughter (whose c-section birth started this roller coaster) born in 2012 after a miscarriage in 2011.
Failed 1st attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 3, 1 frozen embryo saved) in December 2013.
Failed 2nd attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 5, 2 frozen embryos saved) in February 2014.
  • I called DD, Little Baby, not much creativity there.
