I've had insomnia since the beginning and its just getting worse. Unisom and Benadryl dont work anymore. I've tried melatonin. Doesnt work. I finally got on ambien, but if i take it more than 2 or 3 days in a row, then i build a tolerance. What is everyone else doing? Is there anything else that can be prescribed that is considered safe? I'm considering asking my ob for trazodone.
Have you thought of seeing a sleep specialist. They can help you come up with alternatives to taking the meds on the nights you need to skip. Kind of like what @kkcowgirl was saying.
My sister has insomnia and takes Ambien, but doesn't take it all the time. She has been working with a sleep doctor for over 10 years and it helps.
She also was apart of a study and in the study they found a big amount of the people with insomnia had some form of anxiety. So that could be something to think about.
I am taking trazodone, 25- 50 mg a night. I only take it when I need it, a few times a week. My Dr. says even though it's not allowed to be studied, it's an old drug and we would know by now if it caused problems. I am a chronic insomniac since my daughter was born and can't function without sleep, so I consider it worth the risk.
I take Tylenol PM, I've been on different sleep aids bot OTC and Rx for over 10 years and for the first time this is working for me! Plus my doctor has no worries about me taking it every night!
