My LO is 11 weeks (7 weeks adjusted) and Im having trouble figuring out what the problem is and how much he should be eating. So my first question is could he be over eating? I thought I had read they will not but my LO is taking down about 4 oz about 8 times a day and still seems hungry, I have read the average is only 25 oz a day so it has me concerned.
My other issue which could be related is that he takes down a 4 oz bottle in ten minutes...which is why Im thinking he gets so upset when he is finished bc he hasn't had enough time (20 min?) to realize he is full. I have tried to slow him down and burp but everytime I stop he screams and arches his back which makes it hard to get him to burp. So any tips on this?
Another issue is he spits up almost every time. Not projectile, and not a ton but a descent amount. I have talked to the pedi about Zantac for reflux but I just don't want to put him on medication if its not really necessary. He is gaining weight just fine, average an oz a day which the pedi is happy with so its not an issue there. It's just he screams for about 5-10 mins after chugging down the 4 oz and arches his back like it really bothers him. The thing is I can't figure out if he is doing this do to reflux or still being hungry.
Anyway, it seems like all these issues could be related so I guess Im just asking if anyone has had similar situations and suggestions on what I could try?
Re: Bottle feeding help (EP)
I was trying to follow the "schedule" that a nurse at the hospital told me to follow with my now 13 day old DD. She was fussy, gassy, and really unhappy.
After a few days, I started following her natural rhythms and cues, and she has been a much happier baby. We alternate one bottle of pumped breast milk and one of formula, we have found that she is sleeping better, fusses less, and she hasn't spit up in several days.
@mhwood I do feed on demand, which is about every 2 hours with a longer stretch at night, but still averages about 8 times a day.
With my eldest daughter, it was the only way I could get her to burp.
