I just got back from my first appointment at my new practice. I went from a low-risk, all midwife practice to a midwife/ob practice that deals with twin pregnancies more proactively (more appointments, scheduling with the MFM quicker, etc). My first u/s (7 weeks) where we discovered the twins was with my old practice, and the twins were said to be di/di. I had another u/s at 10 weeks with the old practice and never heard anything from that one. Today, I had an u/s at the new practice, and the OB I saw said that from looking at my latest u/s and the 10 week one, my twins appear to have a fused placenta. They are trying to get me in with an MFM next week to figure out for sure what they are. Is it possible that they were di/di to start and the placenta fused after 7 weeks? Or could the placentas be so close together that they look like one, but are actually two? I won't know officially until I have a higher level u/s, but I am just trying not to be too concerned. Did anyone else have anything similar happen?
