Different But cute boy nursery ideas?

Hey yall! I was wondering if anyone had any cute ideas for a boy nursery. I was convinced I was having a girl and had the nursery theme picked out (vintage barbie, because that's the kind of over the top girly girl I am) but for a boy we're stuck. We don't want to do the typical jungle/monkey, sports, vehicles, or just plain blue. I was thinking Dr suesse. But the only crib set I could find is well over 200$ and that seems like way too much for something so small (as apposed to the crib, carseat ext.)
Any ideas?

Edited because using a phone is hard

  • If we have a boy were planning to do a Red/White/Blue theme. Think muted red, white, blue colors (so it's soft and not in your face) with star curtains, red rug, and other "american" themed accents.

  • I don't understand how stores can get away with selling crib bumpers, or the cae seat inserts/matts to go under the seats when all have been determined to be unsafe & there is no standard for testing them out. Agree with @slwprincess....

There are a number of dr seuss fabrics at the fabric stores these days. Yellow, light blue, pink, orange or the primary... pick the book you want to go with and then get a solid color sheets in the desired color(s), add elements that incorporate the theme. I personally love The Lorax, there is also Oh The Places You'll Go, or Green Eggs & Ham & many others that would make great theme ideas. Can do carpet, lamp that match the theme based on colors. Can have friend/family that sews make you a curtain valence, or blanket out of the fabric you like.

  • We thought we were having a boy and were either going to do Peter Rabbit or whales - Restoration Hardware has a gorgeous whale crib bedding set
  • I like the Dr. Seuss idea because it's educational and cute at the same time. You also can't go wrong with that because you can use whatever colors you want in the room. You don't have to have a Dr. Seuss crib bedding- you could just do something colorful and have a Dr. Seuss lamp shade or wall art, ect. I think you're on the right track with that theme! Check out etsy and pinterest.

  • I dream of doing a Peter Pan nursery for either sex. For a boy, I'd focus more on the pirates and Indians, for a girl it would be more about Tinkerbell and the mermaids. Neverland is all about wonder, adventure, and fun. I think it would be such a fun room that they could grow into.
  • We did a bug theme and it turned out really cute!

I did dr Seuss theme for Dd's playroom and it is seriously the cutest gender neutral room I've ever seen...and I'm not a decorator at all.

Forget the bedding. Complete waste of money. just get a bright blue or red sheet.

Go with wall decals that can be purchased from etsy. Check out mamasmaginationshop. She put together a nifty package of decals for me based on my budget and even designed the wall for me. I actually met her in person because we both live in the same city...loveliest young mom! I bought furniture from ikea and amazon and painted some of it red and blue.

What about scubie doo? Golf? Dalmatians? Cars or planes?

  • After reading all this I definitely think we're gonna go with Dr suesse! The playroom pick sealed the deal for sure! Now time to go do some late night pintresting (my pregnancy drug of choice) fore some cute ideas!

  • Sorry about the weird picture.  Its a picture of my DS' nursery.  We did a (understated) safari theme with a denim blue accent wall.

  • I love dr Seuss rooms! Don't focus on the bedding- all you really need is a crib sheet and maybe a skirt anyway. All the rest is a SIDS risk. Focus on theming decor on the walls/furniture instead. Look on Pinterest for ideas.
Exactly what I was going to say.  I went all out with DD with a PBK set and she never used any of it.  Bumpers and blankets aren't safe.  I would focus more on if you want to paint the room and the decor/furniture.

Here is a mural I painted for a Dr. Seuss room awhile ago. I love the "Oh The Places You'll Go" theme because there is a focus on fun, education, and travel. :) and the murals in Dr. Seuss rooms are always so awesome!! (to paint and to look at!) have fun decorating mama!
