Babywearing mamas: recommend your carrier

We have a ring sling, but she's starting to outgrow it. MH uses the ergo-style carrier we have, but I don't like that as much as the soft fabric styles. I'm looking for something that will allow me to carry her on my back. I'm not afraid of a DIY project either, if anyone has made one that they love.
Just thought of this, does anyone know if the ring sling can be used for a back carry?
TIA ladies! Have some homemade goodies for your help ;-)

  • Infantino Mei tai (got to love the price). Not as quick on and off as the ergo, but I like that I can put her higher up on my back.

Another vote for hip carry. Also I would recommend a mei tai - the infantino is pretty inexpensive.

Ring sling can theoretically be used in a back carry but I'm not comfortable with the idea of that. I've seen videos on YouTube. I have an oscha roses and a didymos silk Indio. I like them both for different reasons. I carry on my back in the oscha and I've only mastered the ruck and it gets a little diggy after a while. It still needs a lot of breaking in. My Indio is super soft and broken in. Super cushy. I haven't done a back carry with it yet. Maybe I'll try tomorrow to compare.

I also still use my ring sling a lot. Not sure what your terms of out grown mean. I started more of a hip carry with her and she likes that. She's 5.5 months and 13 lbs 14 oz

All of this, and agree with other pp that mei tais are nice too.

@micabush, I don't know how long your wraps are, but have you tried tying your ruck Tibetan? Totally helps with the digging into the armpits!

  • @micabush, give it a try your armpits will thank you! :) It made a world of difference for me. I can't do it with my 4, so if I back carry with that it's usually just for relatively short periods of time. I can Tibetan tie with a 6 though and wear him all day if I wanted!

  • Also recommend trying the ring sling hip carry! My 2 year old is 33lbs and I can still use it with him for short periods of time! I have the infantino mei tai and it's great too!

  • I loved my Infantino MT. It was super easy to use.  DH uses an Ergo. I have an Oscha(6) and Pavo(5) which I like for different carries.

Exactly this except no Oscha. I like them all for different reasons. :)

  • I love my ring sling and ergo. Both super fast/easy to use.

  • I use the ring sling, but my lo is 14lbs. He likes the side carry or he still likes the kangaroo position if he is sleepy.

  • Thanks for all the input! I will try the hip carry with our RS and go from there.
When I said I feel like she's outgrowing it, it's because she's a squirmy octopus and is always trying to look over her shoulder if I put her in facing me. If I put her facing forward Indian style crossed legs, she pushes against me and the sling constantly. I wasn't sure whether a different carry or a different carrier would be better.
