Daycare Closed due to weather --- UPDATE

Ok ladies.  I heard you all loud and clear.  The next day he was able to return to daycare I pulled my daycare provider aside and told her about my concerns.  I told her that I understand she has a policy that she's closed if schools are closed, but I told her that unfortunately this was not working well for our family's schedule. I told her that we really like her and want to keep our son there, but that I needed her to be more flexible when it snows lightly and we still have to report to work.  She said she cannot change her policy or make special exception because she feels it is a liability if we get in an accident on the way there, or trip and fall on her front porch (which interestingly enough, had not been shoveled that day, and was very icy).  I told her that I didn't agree with this, but understood that she was able to make whatever rules.  So we told her that unfortunately we'd have to find daycare elsewhere... this broke my heart since we really do like her place, my son has many friends there, and she's been his only daycare person since he was 3 months old.  I thought maybe she'd work with us and be flexible, but she didn't, so... we have to do what is best for our family.

Well, I interviewed so many places... and was concerned for a minute since many of the daycares I saw or talked to were so bad!  But finally was able to get someone that I feel will be good.  Good news is that she'll cost $75 less per week, and she is open all the time.  If she needs a day off, she has a substitute, so no more last minute closings.  If it snows, as long as we can get him to her, she's open.  Jackpot.  This is much better for us. Her place is smaller, so less amenities, but overall I think this will work.   Plus she's only 5 minutes from my house.

Thank you for all of your suggestions.

  • Quote box problems seem to be a reoccurring event today.

Yeah I've retyped a response like 3 times and it's just showing it like I'm quoting you. WTF? I give up.

  • I'm so happy that you decided to pick something else that works better for your family, instead of settling for what you were used to. Good luck on your journey with the new DC provider! DS is also in a small in-home DC and we love the environment.
