Feeling the baby "flutter"??

Hey Mamas! I've been feeling a light flutter in my lower abdomen the past few days. Everything I've read says you don't feel the baby moving around until 18 weeks or so, but my friends say they felt it early. I really think the feeling is my lil prune moving around in there. Anyone else feel a flutter? As if there's a little butterfly in there??

Re: Feeling the baby "flutter"??

  • It's most likely gas. Your baby is way to small to feel. I have heard of people who claim to feel movement as early as 15 weeks, but that is even a stretch.  The average is around 18-20, you might feel it a few weeks earlier, but probably not this early.

  • Um, nope. Last time around I didn't feel her until 16 weeks, and I fully expect it to be at least 6 more weeks before I feel this one moving. At this point, your butterflies are most likely gas.

  • Sometimes I think I feel something (its like my uterus is twitching), but realize there is no way it's the actual baby I feel.

  • i have, but it is gass, cos i can feel it moving al over the place, also, your body is producing 50% more blood than before, so sometimes, you can feel flutter on its way there, the same as when you feel it on your arm and when you look, it is "beating" :-)

  • It's just too early to feel the baby, once you do feel him/her you will know it.  I felt #1 at 18 weeks, #2 and 16 weeks, and #3 at 16.5 weeks.

  • The thing is that it doesn't feel like gas at all, feels like a twitch more than anything, like RichLab said, I suppose it could be blood circulating, but I'm convinced it's not gas.
  • One of my first symptoms was my uterus 'twitching'. According to what I read it can be things growing and shifting around in there. If it's not that it's gas, no way you're feeling the babe yet. Soon enough though!
  • I get twitchy ute feelings too. It does feel a lot like baby flutters, but it's probably just things growing and stretching. You probably won't feel real baby movements until 16+ weeks.

what's funny is that i am feeling it right now lol it feels like i am being kiked from the inside out. I am at my desk, sitting, so when i straighten up or stand up, that is when it starts to twitch, like now that i am standing, blood can floow better and that is exactly what it feels like, pulsating. i know it isn't baby, unless baby is thrusting their entire body  onto the right side of my uterous lol funny image, but im sure baby is still chillin, on its side, just like how their daddy likes to sleep :-)

  • I only just stopped feeling Phantom baby and my dd is three. I've felt those twitches too and it feels just like Phantom baby but I'm sure it's just my uterus stretching and things shifting around in there. Baby doesn't even really have legs to kick with yet.

  • I like to pretend the flutters are the baby, but it's probably just my ute. Definitely feels different than gas.

  • Gas, RLP, ute stretching and growing to accommodate our LOs... I think it's too early to feel baby but if it makes you happy to think that's what you're feeling, then go ahead :-) I felt DD at 24 weeks (anterior placenta) and DS at exactly 18 weeks.

  • Haha, thankfully not!!
In saying that though... He was extremely active and when he was born the pediatrician said he's unusually good muscle tone.

I can't wait to feel this baby, it's so relieving to know baby is okay in there! Wish we had windows on our bellies to peak in and check on them!
  • I have been having those feelings too, and it's not the same as gas, so I'm going with the side that says stretching/pulling/something -- because it's definitely not a gas-type feeling.  It's more like a little scraping feeling inside the walls...always very low and in the same place.

  • I'm not going to count anything that "might be" baby moving until I feel what is definitely baby moving. I feel like I'll know for certain when it's the baby, but for now it's just gas.

You will definitely know it's baby moving, when it's time.  I think people manifest things in their minds so much that they actually believe they are true.

  • I'm 12 weeks and swear I've felt babe move just the other day... Definitely wasn't gas but could just be my uterus growing and moving
  • I've had phantom kicks and phantom flutters, the mind is a funny thing. Some of the flutters where gas, so there's that too.
