Trouble TTC

IUI#3 BFN...IVF is hopefully next.

Four great follies and still a got a BFN.

I am going for an IVF consult Wednesday... We can do another IUI but I feel the time has come to be putting all this money (OOP) into something with a higher success rate.  We are gonna give my eggs a couple of shots at least with IVF before moving on.  Never thought I would be on this road ( nobody does I am sure) but being OOP and 36 years old I think it is time.  Since my ovaries are deciding to play right now we might as well try to strike while the iron is hot.

So I guess now I gotta study up on IVF protocols so I can ask some intelligent questions on Wednesdays.  Any DOR ladies out there with IVF  experience I  would love your thoughts as what to ask.  thanks

  • Hi, I wanted to chime in,as I am new to this site. I to am having infertility issues. My husband did a lot of research on where to go for IVF since this was our only route. We ended up going back to the same Dr. that did my tubal reversal. North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine, they have an office in Cary, N.C. as well as in Greensboro, N.C. and that is about an hour and 1/2 travel for us to Greensboro. I know you said you needed to ask questions, and find out good success rates, so I wanted to let you know of a website. It is sart.com it will give you a map of the U.S. and you just click on the state you are in, or another, and find a fertility clinic, you will be able to see what the "live birth rate" is and all the needed information to make a decision on where you would like to go.

    I started on my birth control pills the day after Thanksgiving, and stopped them this past Friday. The nurse wanted to see if I would get a period, so I did today (Mon. Dec. 16, 2013) and so I called her this afternoon, and I have to go in tomorrow morning for blood work, and what is called a "baseline appt.". I asked what they would be looking for, and she said in my blood work something between 20-75 which I wasn't quite clear on, and then afterwards I go to have an ultrasound, to see the follicles. She said, if the blood work comes back good, and the ultrasound looked good, then she would be able to call me back tomorrow (Tues. Dec. 17th) with a schedule, and when to start my injections. I will let you know, they had some hidden fees, which we were not told about, that made me very upset. Also, they now offer financing for IVF, and Care Credit does as well. The medication, which we had ordered from Madellas was $4,300.00. So this is a huge step not just emotionally but financially as well. This is the only option for my husband and I, so we really hope for the best, just like everyone else on here I'm sure. I hope some of this information will help you out. I wish all you ladies the best of luck, and if perhaps any of you have any advice for myself, I wouldn't mind listening to what you have to say or any help, in anyway shape or form.
    Thank you for allowing me to reply to your post. I hope that I will be welcomed & meet new friends and soon to be mom's out there, that can share some information. God Bless!

  • I'm so sorry the IUI was a bust. We're also trying to find the right protocol for my DOR, and I have no answers for you but feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss. We tried a high stim antagonist first and I didn't respond so we converted to IUI. I'm in the tww now after a femara/Bravelle IUI. My response after 6 days on 75 iu of Bravelle was actually quite similar to my response on the high dose canceled IVF cycle. So now my doc is saying I might be a candidate for micro/mini IVF with banking. I think the reasoning is that if 2-3 follicles is all we'll get no matter how high they crank my meds, then why not save on the meds? Our judgment call now is whether or not to try another conventional cycle (maybe adding something like estrogen priming, or trying MDLF) and see if it goes any better, or just go for the mini IVF. You should learn a lot from your first cycle about how you will respond and based on your IUIs you may do quite well. GL!

  • @Nootbar
    Thanks for response... I know he will keep the Menopur but not sure about exact protocol.  I have lots of questions about EPP and MDLP.  I didn't think to ask him about banking so I will def ask him about that!  Thanks!

    @AlwaysHaveFaith
     Thanks for your input... sorry you had to type all that out.  I am very familiar with SART and RESOLVE.  My RE is a SART member and consistently has some of the highest numbers in the US and performed the first IVF in the area so I am in really good hands.  You are doing the long protocol which is pretty standard.  I will not be doing that protocol so I don't have any advice for you, but good luck!
