2nd Trimester

Shaving

I haven't been able to see over my stomach for about five weeks now. Which has made shaving my bikini area very hard. I can't stand having hair there. My hubby has also helped me try to maintain the hair there but with my growing belly and sensitivity it has become more difficult. I really don't want to have a bush when I deliver. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I've never waxed before, and don't know if it's pregnancy safe. But hair there isn't my thing. So I would love your feedback. There are bound to be other expectant mothers feeling the way I feel...

Re: Shaving

  • Waxing is safe but your skin, especially in the bikini area, will be extra sensitive.

  • Cold wax or hard wax is supposed to be easier on the skin maybe you could find a place that uses it? It's wax that hardens and doesn't need a strip to be taken off.

  • I just trim with a shaver...I don't like to be completely bald. Last pregnancy and this one, I sit in the bath tub and have a mirror so I can see what I'm doing. That way I can shave while being able to see what I'm doing in the mirror.

  • Ive just shaved blindly when I can't see it anymore. I never cut or nicked myself. Or you could use a mirror.

  • Not sure where you are, but there is a franchise called European Wax Center - it's hard wax and I swear it's less painful than normal or sugar wax.  However, waxing while pregnant is a bish.  Good luck.
  • Okay since it's been a long while for me I can not remember. Does hair just need to be 1/4 inch to get waxed? I am hoping to go this weekend to get rid of this hair grosses me out big time.

  • Waxing kills me when i'm not pregnant, so i don't think i could handle it. I might just have to let it all go and hope that the nurses are more bothered about the baby i'm pushing out of my vagina, rather than the hair that's on it. They must see some absolute car crashes though.

  • Nobody cares except you. Wax or don't. Delivery will be way more than what your vulva looks like.

  • Love it or hate it, Nair is great for this, and yes, it is safe, according to my doctor!

  • I hate shaving down there! I also hate having a 1970's porno bush as well, so I used my Gilette Trime Style with a mirror to keep trimmed. When I get closer to delivery I'm going to get waxed. I've waxed on and off for almost 13 years. While it isn't the most pleasant experience, it's like 15-20 minutes of being uncomfortable, then weeks of smoothness!

  • Wax, I plan on doing it pre birth.  I use Veet at home now, but I'm sure here in a bit, I won't be able to.  I can't stand shaving down there!
  • I get a handheld mirror to shave. Can't see over my belly anymore either
  • How much does getting waxed cost ?
  • My plan is to get myself a small mirror.. Hopefully that helps.. I'm hopping to find one that wont fog.. hmm..

  • I'm keeping it trimmed as best I can...there may be all different lengths down there lol.

lol I'm a little patchy myself

  • I actually did care what my monster vaginally looked like during labor. for me, no bush it is! BUT I do shave,,, I didn't read ALL the above but does the wax hurt way more during pregnancy? I had warm wax Brazilian for years but the hairs became SO fine that they'd grow underneath the skin. it was not infected or bumpy in grown, it was flat & weird so I quit... but I'd love to try it now! I'm nervous it hurts too much though? my vaginally is all "big" and swollen! sick! I feel like it could rip off!!!!

  • I couldn't brave being waxed there! Hair removal cream for bikini line is fab smooth on wash off no pain x

That made me laugh really hard! Thanks :)
  • Id say your best option would be a pro wax. However, the mirror in the shower worked for me. I didn't have the guts to go through with the wax. I think I would personally feel very awkward in that situation. Lol.

  • I waxed for my 1st pregnancy because I thought the same thing.  But honestly I was not happy about how fast it comes back, then you have to let it grow out to go wax again, and it costs a lot of money (depending on if you do the whole enchilada or just bikini line).  Try it once and see what you think!
  • I use veet cream and the spatula and it works so amazing! Painless too! It comes in a big giant pump bottle for like 9.00 for legs and armpits but works wonders on my vaj!

  • Well I bit the bullet & shaved yesterday, for the first time in a couple years (I've been getting waxed but that ish is expensive @ $65 a month). It wasn't so bad, I squatted in the shower & did it by feel mostly.

  • Wax wax wax and wax.  I loathe shaving.
  • I love this thread!  My husbands new nickname for me is patches.  I haven't seen my lady parts for weeks and we only have a big shower so I think I might cave and use veet and a mirror or get waxed.
  • So just saying..got a full brazillian last night at 27 weeks, was quick and painless. Soooooooo glad it's gone!

  • I've just gotten to the point where I can't blindly shave any more, so planned on getting waxed this weekend.  But, beginning this week, I started getting the sore pelvic area feeling.... doctor said it was probably just pregnancy aches (just talked over the phone, will go in if it gets worse and persists for more than a week), these boards though lead me to believe it could be the dreaded varicose veins.  Anyway, at this point I am too sore inside to even think about being sore on the outside, though, part of me thinks the pain from one will cancel out the pain from the other!  Regardless, waxing hurts for all of 7 minutes.  Look at it as a way to start getting your body ready to the pain of labor and recovery!
  • I shaved by feel once a week with DS. It wasn't ideal or perfect, but it worked. For leg shaving, the Venus Spa Breeze razors were a lifesaver at the end of pregnancy and just after delivery. They have shave gel built in, so you don't have to worry about not being able to reach your lower legs. It's like having an extra couple of inches added to your arm.
