Yogurt?

Has anyone given their Lo yogurt or know when its ok to?   I thought it was 9 months but was not sure.

Re: Yogurt?

  • I've been doing the Gerber yogurt for a few weeks now. He seems to like it. Just make sure you get the baby and not the toddler one. There is an organic whole milk one for toddlers I get when LOs turn 1.

  • I called my pedi about this the other day. Our feeding chart that they gave up said 6 months and up to start plain yogurt. We plan on starting it this week.

  • We've been feeding him stonyfield YoBaby yogurt... he seems to like it. I called to confirm that the flavored ones were okay, and they said it was fine. He's been having some tummy issues, and the probiotics are good for it.

  • We do the YoBaby (Stonyfield?) yogurts-- started at 6 months. C loves it-- I sometimes mix it with fruit or oatmeal. I was told that there are different proteins in yogurt vs milk so it's ok for babies before milk is introduced but it should not be low-fat.
  • We give them Brown Cow plain (cream top/full fat) yogurt from Whole Foods. It's so good.

  • DS loves loves loves yogurt and would have it at every meal if he could. We've done YoBaby so far.
  • For those who have already started yogurt. Do you give yogurt as a meal or a snack? We do solids twice a day so I wasnt sure if I should give the yogurt as a 3rd solid.

I think it could work as either.

  • We do yobaby plain for breakfast. It's pretty much the only thing he likes!

  • Great thanks ladies!!! Ill have to pick some up:)
  • We do it with fruit for breakfast, as an afternoon snack, or as dessert after dinner sometimes.
  • At first I gave him the Gerber Banana yogurt. Then I just bought a big tub of Stonyfield Whole Milk Plain yogurt. Much cheaper for my wallet.

I don't think he liked it plain so the next time I did half yogurt half applesauce and he ate it up! He gets it for breakfast.

  • My guy LOVES yogurt.  In fact you can not have any without giving him some or he gets upset.  We usually only give him plain Greek yogurt and he loves it.

This. Sometimes it is just a snack in between breakfast and lunch or sometimes we will do lunch as veggies and yogurt.

  • We had our 6m appointment today and the pedi said 8m for yogurt.

Guess this is one of those things that can be interpreted multiple ways and incorporates a lot of opinion, as opposed to something like honey which is universally a no no before a year.

I think it's so funny how different doctors say different things. As my husband always says, "medicine's an art, not a science" and I guess to a degree it's true.

  • With all of my kids, I started yogurt at 6 months as per the pedi's suggestion. B loves it! I usually give it for lunch.

    This is us too.

  • I tried plain yogurt, but goat's milk instead of cows since we suspected dairy intolerance along with his soy intolerance, and I'd read that goat's was closer to breast milk. I didn't find out if he could digest it though, since he refused to eat it!
  • We tried the YoBaby simply plain yogurt for the first time today...

As you can tell she wasn't very pleased with the taste. We did 2 more spoonfuls and she gagged every time. Hopefully tomorrow goes better. I want to try the flavored ones but my pedi suggested to do plain. However I may have to go against her on this one, even though I'll probably feel super guilty. ugh.

You could always mix in some fruit purée if you think she'd prefer flavoring. We've been doing plain mostly, but I add in some fruit purée here and there for some added flavor since the yobaby vanilla I bought has
sugar ETA (I bet the sugar amount isn't much to worry about - I need to look at it again).

  • We tried a scoop of plain with some pear/apple puree I made and it went alot better!! She managed to eat at least a quarter without gagging!
