Tylenol Question

So how bad is tylenol for babies?   My pedi basically said to only give it to LO if it is like a Defcon Five night but with LO teething we seem to be having a lot of those.   I am pretty crunchy and would prefer just to give him Hylands but lately those don't seem to be cutting it.  We already have two teeth so I am not sure why we made it through those two on the Hylands but are having more trouble now.
DH thinks tylenol is basically like poison but I hate to have LO in pain if a little Tylenol can help.

Re: Tylenol Question

  • I had posted a while back about Camilia tubes. I find they work well. Check them out.

  • i've actually used it quite a bit lately, between teething an LO having her second cold in a month.
  • I actually asked my pedi about Tylenol because I have an aspirin allergy which means I cannot take any ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin/aleve etc. I was worried giving anything to R in case he also has this issue. She said Tylenol is perfectly safe if given in the proper doses. The liver issues people talk about are mainly seen when people abuse or habitually use very strong prescription meds like Vicodin, oxydocone, Percocet, etc. We did give him Tylenol when he had his first ear infection but he needed the antiinflamitory properties of the Motrin and luckily he hasn't had any issues. I will say that even though Tylenol last only half as long, R felt better on Tylenol than on Motrin.
  • I feel better about Motrin than Tylenol, and have been using Motrin more than I would like to lately.

He has had a dose of it almost every night for the past week because of teething discomfort, then getting sick this weekend, he had a fever and motrin knocked it out in about an hour.

  • Motrin is better for teething because it helps with inflammation.  Just make sure you have the correct dosage.  And try to give it after a feeding, it can upset the stomach a bit.

  • My pedi said she really prefers to see babies take Motrin or Advil once they are 6 months, over tylenol. I was surprised at that, but I know how easily it can be overdosed.

  • S's bottom teeth came in practically no problem. This top tooth that's coming in is turning our world upside down. We give him Tylenol as sparingly as possible. I give him cold teething rings and he seems to really like them.
  • Thanks, guys. I am switching over to Motrin.
