Cleaning Dr Brown Bottles

I was wondering if any of you rockstar Mommas had tips for cleaning the inside bottom of bottles? The part where it kind of rises seems to get a build up that I just can't get clean with the brush I have. I am currently using this brush: https://www.diapers.com/p/munchkin-deluxe-bottle-brush-10513?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_term=MC-018&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&CAWELAID=1338636972&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=MC-018&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw={keyword}

Also, I don't have a dishwasher, so unfortunately, that's not an option. Is there a homemade mixture I can soak them in? Does boiling them help?

Thanks!!

We rinse the bottle out as soon as we are done. When I wash them, I let the bottle soak for a few minutes in hot soapy water. We haven't had any issues with build up since doing this.

  • Exactly what previous poster said. Make sure you rinse those bottles as soon as you are done. Don't let them sit out too long.

  • I have the same issue, going to get this next time I'm out.

  • I don't use any brush. When done, I rinse out and put some soap and water and shake it all up. Then rinse with hot water. I sterilize once a week.

We use these brushes and also do not have a dishwasher.. haven't had any problems with breastmilk build-up so far.  We rinse the bottles out right away, but there are a few that occasionally slip by at night and don't get rinsed until the morning.

I've been meaning to grab this brush. I think the sponge end might do a better job than the bristles on the one I have now. Thanks, gals!

I usually keep a large bowl or the throw up tub from the hospital in the dunk filled with soapy water. When baby is done I take apart the bottles and leave them in there until I have tone to clean them. I've never had a problem.

There is also a teeny tiny dr brown brush you can buy to get in the tiniest holes.

  • I registered for and got as a shower gift the dr. Browns bottle brush which does have a sponge on the end and seems to do the trick. I also let the bottles soak in hot soapy water before washing.

    This.

  • Ok. I thought this may be a way marketers get more money....but it really works!  Use Pamolive Baby Dish Soap.  It gets rid of the the residue and slime left behind in these bottles.  I just knew if Dawn wouldn't remove it, I was in a mess...   I was given some of the Pamolive, and low and behold!  It cleaned them without a problem!  The sponge end brushes work the best too.
  • Go buy a dr browns brush. It works fur me. Boil the bottles everytime you use a bottle.

That was my thought! I must be a horrible mom, because I do NOT have time to do that. I have a 13 month old and 10 week old (who is teething). Days are hectic. I feel accomplished when I WASH the bottles thoroughly, let alone BOIL! I bought the microwave steam sterilizer, but I'm not sure I'm impressed.

Oh I should have said I use a the munchkin sterilizer. I have 3 packs of bottles though. So I have a total of 7 four ounce bottles. And 6 eight ounce bottles. I just wash them and throw them in the sterilizer and use the dr browns pitcher and fill them all at once then put them in the fridge. It's very easy.

Eta: don't know why I said boil them. I meant to say sterilize them.

Ok, that makes more sense. :)

  • I rinse the bottles out as soon as we are done and use the Dr. Brown's brush.  We also have a Dr. Brown's bottle warmer.  We use it to warm the bottles (obviously), but since it's just steam it's pretty much the same thing as a bottle sanitizer, so we use it just to steam clean the bottles once in awhile as well.

Yes, this. I always rinse and fill them with water to sit before I wash them. I use the OXO bottle brush and have not had issues.

This for us too. I really like the Oxo brush.

  • We have the Avent bottle brush which fits Dr. Brown bottles perfectly.  I bought it at Target.  I can't find a link to the brush by itself, but this kit has a pic so you can see what it looks like.  It isn't as wide as some of the other bottle brushes so it is easier to get to the bottom.

This! You can really scrub the bottom and inside of dr. Brown bottles with this brush. Also, Dr. Brown or munchkin sterilizing bags are great because you just pop them in the microwave - no need to boil the bottles!
