Christmas Eve and past LO's bedtime

I'm wondering what everyone's plans are for Christmas Eve. My aunt hosts and because most everyone works that day, it starts around 6/6:30. That means dinner isn't until 7/7:30. Then presents and then dessert. Usually we're not leaving until 10/11:00. DD's bedtime is 7:30/8:00. I'm thinking of giving everyone their gifts before dinner and then leaving shortly after dinner. I'm so afraid of ruining Christmas Day with a cranky baby who was up too late.

What are you all doing?
3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13

Re: Christmas Eve and past LO's bedtime

  • We have had quite a few family events that have run long. We bring the pnp with us and set it up in another room so that when she shows signs, we can put her down (we usually bring a sleep and play to change her into before she gets to that point). She will wake for a moment while we put her in her Carseat, but falls right back asleep. It has not ever been an issue.

  • I think we're just gonna go with the flow and see what happens. I figure there's no point in stressing about it because it's only a couple days, and anytime I try to plan things out LO does the opposite of what I want her to. I'll try to get her to nap/sleep wherever we are and if she refuses we'll either let her stay up a bit later or just go home depending on how cranky she is. I'll definitely be taking advantage of all the car rides for lots of naps though!

  • Same with go with the flow. We will just see what happens, DD is pretty good at staying up past her bedtime. But I can always lay her in another room at DH's aunts house.

  • I just bring her bath stuff and pj's and try to get her to sleep in her carseat. I will also try to put her down for a nap at 6:00 to hopefully make her less cranky.

    Yep

  • Our big family Christmas party is held a week or more before Christmas. As the family grew it was easier this way because my parents are from large families.

Christmas Eve for us will be a nice meal and lots of great snacks while relaxing at home. We will attend midnight mass in the evening. We will also probably visit my sisters and my parents briefly and I will see them all on Christmas day.

A will probably be off but unless we skip Christmas we can't avoid it. A hates to eat anywhere but home.
  • We will bring the PnP to DH's aunt's house. But on Thanksgiving LO only napped an hour and stayed up the rest of the time. I assume it was due to overtired, new room, and unfamiliar "crib". Hoping for better results this time.

  • We will probably just come home. We tried letting E sleep wen we were at my brother's for a party but she absolutely flipped when she woke up and didn't recognise where she was. It took us ages to pull her round.

  • We normally do a lot of things on Christmas Eve

We go to my brothers to open gifts with my dad
SIL's to give FIL and nieces and nephews gifts
Go to DH's Uncle's for their christmas eve party
    Sleep over MIL's

This year we're skipping the party,we normally get there at 8ish, and don't leave until after 12. That wont work with DD.

  • DS doesn't have a set bedtime, and he usually crashes between 9-10 most nights, so I think we'll be fine no matter what we end up doing on Christmas Eve. Plus, we're staying at my MILs, so we'll be bed sharing anyways, so he won't go down until we go down (he rolls/scoots, no more bed alone time). If he falls asleep before I'm ready, I'll just have him sleep in my arms, which is not unusual for us :)
