First Chocolate

A bit of a dull question but when do you plan to give your LO's their first taste of chocolate?

Re: First Chocolate

  • C has had a little already. My ped said it's mainly just allergy concerns and the caffeine content that they worry about. She had a spoon of birthday cake a few weeks ago. She has not yet exploded.

My doctor says the pleasure a child gets from one piece of chocolate far outweighs any harm. Mind you this is his outlook on most things ha!

  • I haven't given any but I had allergies to chocolate as a kid.

@trademama is that because of but traces in chocolate?

Eta: that was meant to say nut not but. Stupid phone.

  • @lolalipsy no never reacted to nuts... Milk, eggs, and chocolate caused me to break out in hives. I outgrew it by 3 or so.
  • L has already tasted it. Chocolate ice cream, pudding, syrup etc. It's never very much, just enough for her to taste. My DH and my dad are the main offenders for giving her sweets because they love her reaction. I don't fight it anymore - it's never made her sick so I'm fine with it.

  • R hasn't had any to my knowledge but who knows what my parents have given him. I have no idea when he'll have it because ::putting on flam suit:: I don't care for chocolate. We never really have it in the house and absolutely hate chocolate cake.
  • 1st birthday here.

I'm not crazy for chocolate either. Probably one of the main reasons my kid hasn't had it. I never have any in the house.

  • I am not really sure. This hasn't crossed my mind before. Maybe first birthday or after.

I have been thinking of when LO can have his first French fry!

@rea1687 I've already given a french fry.  well sort of, it was a potato wedge roasted in olive oil.  It's practically a french fry.
