wwyd work related

I left my employer last month. I worked 7a-3p/330p but often times i'm in at 6am. In a nutshell they want me back and would increase salary. I left for several reasons (too flexible meaning if I had a meeting with night shift or before 3p I could take the day off but these meetings are not consistent days each month, its often hard to find the day to take off because i may have other meetings to attend that were planned weeks in advance, insane workload, commute)

I was fortunate to stay home with my LO for close to a year by consulting part time. I am looking for new opportunities but nothing yet. wondering what i should do. Truthfully i dont want to be a director anymore thats chief reason why i left. its just hard to find a lesser role. I do know as little one gets older i will appreciate flexibility. Ladies what should i do? i know you can't make the decision for me just looking for points of view

I work in healthcare and don't work weekends.

  • What do you mean by "too flexible?" Just curious! I have a lot of flexibility in my job and I really appreciate it.

Hmmm. Only you can decide, but I would not go back unless you are sure you want to stay.
    This.

But is there anything that you can negotiate?  Since they want you back and willing to pay your more, maybe you can decide what can be changed to help tip the scale towards you.  It never hurts to ask.

  • I would definitely need more actual numbers to advise. What are you earning consulting vs salaried staff?

What is your issue with being a director? Pressure? Job responsibilities?

FWIW I always find it odd that your posts mention being a "Director" because that means many different things in many different organizations (as I can imagine you know being in HR). At all of my companies, Directors were a dime a dozen but I know at some places it is a step down from Executive level. So I am not quite sure what we are talking about here... if you are nearly a CEO or still hanging with the rest of us peons.

  • Personally for me I would probably take the job if it paid more money and I still had flexibility. But for us personally that would benefit us me making more money. In the end it is ultimately your choice. At some point you liked your job enough to do such a great job that they want you back. Good luck with your decision.

  • If your old company wants you back so bad, I bet you are pretty marketable. So the ball is probably in your court in terms of making demands. I would think through what you really want out of a job and ask for it. the worst they can do is turn you down.
