2nd Trimester

Do you eat tuna?

I just had some at lunch and ended up throwing out half of it because it looked funny. Then I started to wonder if I should really be eating tuna while pregnant? I always have before but have never really asked the doc about it. Does everyone else eat tuna?

  • Yep, but no more than about once a week.  I get a tuna melt.

  • Yup, I do albacore too.  But only about twice a month.  I don't like the chunk light as much so can't stomach it.  I'll occasionally crave a cold tuna sandwich with pickles and really crunchy lettuce.

  • I love tuna!

    It's a BOY

  • My doctor said its fine but not too often - maybe once a week.
I love tuna, just haven't been able to eat it. May give it another try soon though.
  • I don't care for tuna salad or canned tuna in any other form, but I will occasionally indulge in a tuna steak when it's on sale and DH is in the mood to grill. Tuna is perfectly safe (up to 12 oz a week), especially if your diet doens't include a lot of other higher-mercury fish.

  • My doc said not to eat it at all and followed it by saying "my kids don't even know what a tunafish sandwich is..." She gave me alternative fish sources to eat. But now I crave tuna almost every day because she said I can't have it. Figures. lol.
  • I'll have some every once in a while. Moderation

  • Yup, but try to limit it to no more than one time a week due to mercury.

  • Sure, if I feel like it. Chunk light, and not a large quantity or often. I even had a few pieces of a spicy tuna roll a couple of weeks back. Heavenly.

  • My doc said tuna was fine in moderation.  The only way I usually eat it is raw in sushi, which he said isn't a problem if I get it from a place I know is reputable.  In sushi rolls, it's in such small portions that it's not really a problem.  That's also how I get my salmon because I don't like how it tastes cooked, I only like it raw.
  • One can a week is fine. I had some early on but as morning sickness settled in, I couldn't handle the smell anymore so I haven't had any since.

  • Tuna melt for dinner it is!
  • loved tuna sandwiches for me!!!
  • I have been. There aren't a lot of protein options that I like. 1-2 a week is the max though
  • Of course!  I honestly do not pay attention to the "food rules" of pregnancy.  We usually eat tuna steaks versus from a can, but we eat fish 1-2x/week on average.  I do like making fritters from canned tuna though with sriracha!  Yum!

  • Skipjack is the tuna with the least mercury content because of its size, even less than chunk light (which is a mix of several tuna including skipjack). Whole foods tuna brand sells a no salt skipjack.

  • My midwife said one can per week is completely fine.  I haven't had much except in sushi form since I found out I was pregnant.

Except for this week, I had a sushi roll with spicy tuna on Friday and then I had a tuna melt with cheddar and muenster cheese, pickles and mustard last night for dinner. YUM!

  • Tuna eater here. I stick to the chunk light tuna. I usually mix it in with a casserole so I'm still getting the tuna flavor but not eating just tuna

  • As a rule, I don't. But on occasion I do. No more then once a week if you like eating it.
