Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Scary stuff at Target...

I guess there have been several incidents of women being robbed at the Target by my house.  We live in a really nice city, too!  I guess that the women are alone, and when they unlock their car, the robber gets sneaks in the passenger seat and holds a knife to their neck and demands money.  One woman was in the backseat strapping her baby in the seat and the man grabbed the woman from behind and robbed her.  I hope they catch this freak soon!!

Re: Scary stuff at Target...

  • This kind of stuff scares the crap out of me!  I used to be very observant of my surroundings but now that I have DS, my focus is on getting him into his carseat without a scream-fest.

  • That is so scary. Like pp said I used to be very observant but it's so hard now when you are dealing with a baby.  I always lock my doors as soon as I'm in the car, and when I'm putting DD in her car seat I usually stick my head up a few times a look around. Yeah, I'm paranoid.

  • I was gonna go to Target tomorrow but now after all these Target robbery posts today, I'm not so sure I want to.  I'm usually very alert, but with a baby, it's hard to do (having to strap him in and everything).

  • I refuse to go alone at night now.  You just don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a nice community, KWIM?
  • Wow! That is really scary. I think that sometimes I get a false sense of security with dd thinking that no one would be heartless enough to attack a woman with a baby. However, I have heard that predators target women who are distracted so that make sense. Did you know that you aren't supposed to talk on the phone in a parking lot? I always felt safer if I was talking to someone until I was told that it made me an easier mark because I wasn't as aware of my surroundings. I hope they catch him!
  • I am like another poster, I look around and stuff as I am putting the kids in the car. So in case someone is watching us they see that I am at least being observant. Not that it will deter them but hopefully it will.

  • That is really scary.  I worry about stuff like that happening all the time.  I think I do a pretty good job most times of being "prepared" by being aware of my surroundings and not wasting any time getting in my car, but I do really worry about the time it takes me to get DS buckled into his seat.  I really hate the world we live in sometimes.  Why can't everyone treat others the way they want to be treated??
  • Which Target was it?  I live in KC and haven't heard this on the new yet!

  • Amy, it is the Target in Liberty.  They haven't really said much on the news about it.  I heard from my neighbor who is a cop.  So scary!!
  • It's very scary, but I also think it's kinda naive to think that's just b/c it's a "nice" area that you're safe.  Crime happens everywhere and more affluent areas are often targets (no pun) b/c that's where the money is and people don't use the same precautions that they would elsewhere. Just keep your wits about it and be aware of your surroundings.
