Baby calms down when hand on belly???

I've noticed the last few days that whenever sesame is kicking up a storm, she seems to calm down as soon as I put a hand to my belly to feel it!
Does anyone else notice this?? it would explain why every time shes kicking and DH puts a hand on my belly she stops!!
Further info - its summer here, and getting really hot, so hands are really warm. wonder if cold hands would make a difference?

  • I think they can feel the pressure difference.

  • My little guy always stops his ninja-training (that's how it feels to me) when I put my hand on my belly too! It's very frustrating b/c I have only felt him from the outside a couple times, and I'm hoping my family can feel him moving at Christmas. I don't think it makes a difference with hot/cold either...

  • Mine definitely slows down if I put pressure on it.  We went to the movies yesterday and some of it was really loud... what to expect says he can hear now, and I totally believe it.  He would start moving around like crazy whenever it got really loud, but when I put my hand on my belly it slowed/stopped.
  • I agree that I think the pressure calms them. When DD was born (at 29 weeks), one of the things the NICU nurses taught us was to lay our hands over her lightly to calm her down when she was upset.

  • Everytime my little guy moves around I put my hand on my stomach and he always stops moving!!
  • I read in "what to expect when expecting" putting a flashlight in your belly the baby reacts to the light we r going to try it tonight.

  • My little girl doesn't stop when I put my hand on my belly but if I talk she does so when I try to tell people oh she's kicking if you want to feel she immediately stops so I basically just grab DH's hand and put it where she is kicking so he can feel now

  • Baby tends to move more when I put my hands on my belly.  When I wake up in the morning, I immediately put my hands there to get baby kicking before I get up for the day.  It doesn't always work though.  At times, baby will stop moving when I try to feel the kicks.

  • Alex does that. Which is a 180 from my first.
  • Of course MY kid is the weirdo who gets even more active when we put our hands on my belly. He follows my husband's hand around to nudge at him - we like to pretend he's giving him high fives.  :D

My little guy is the same way! My husband and I like to think he is playing with us! It's great for daddy bonding time! :)
  • Same here. She usually stops when ppl try to feel!!
  • I'm so jealous of the ones whose babies get more active!!!! Oh well, I'm sure DH will get to feel her soon!

  • Mine gets more active too. I actually put my remote control on my stomach the other day and little man kicked it off. If I gently push on him with my hand, he kicks back.

  • I read somewhere to try  feeling lightly with three fingers rather than the whole had because they do calm down when they feel the pressure of your whole hand.
