2nd pregnancy- IUD in place

Hello ladies. I'm curious to know as to who here got pregnant with an IUD? I'm not certain as to how many weeks I am yet. I believe about 5 weeks or so, but I have the IUD in place. I'm still waiting to see my obgyn. If this happened to you, what procedures were taken? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2nd pregnancy- IUD in place

  • It's likely it's an ectopic pregnancy. That's a huge risk getting pregnant with an IUD because it is meant to block implantation in your uterus.

  • I've known a few women who have gotten pregnant with IUDs, but I'm not sure what the processes were during their pregnancy.  Their kiddos are beautiful and healthy now!  I would definitely get in to see the doctor as soon as possible though.
On our way to baby#2!  Praying for a healthy and happy delivery next June!
  • I'm just waiting on my family doctor to confirm my appointment with my obgyn. Thank you ladies. I'm very concerned because of all the information I've been reading online.
  • I'm just curious, do you have Mirena or Paragard?
  • I have known several people who have gotten pregnant with the IUD in place.  It seems like most of the ones I know who had Mirena did have to remove the IUD during pregnancy.  I have at least 1 friend who had the paraguard who continued the entire pregnancy with the IUD in place and had a healthy baby.  I do know your risk of miscarriage is increased and I'm sure the course of action will depend greatly on where implantation occurred.  Good luck!
  • I have the Mirena.

I would get into see your OB ASAP. My husband was actually conceived with an IUD in place...thank goodness for that, but it creates some risky conditions for a pregnancy.

Good luck, I hope everything turns out ok.

  • A good friend of mine became pregnant with the Paragard in place. Turned out to be twins. She left it in place and delivered 2, healthy, full-term girls.
