Anyone's baby hitting him or herself?

My LO has the weirdest new habit, and I wasn't sure if it is normal or something to be concerned about. He has been making a fist with his one hand and bringing it down hard either to his side or the side of his face. He doesn't cry and it doesn't leave marks or anything, so I don't think it's hurting him. Still, it's concerning me. So normal baby behavior or no?

Mine slaps her tummy. I say she's playing the drums

and she whacks herself in the face with toys. I don't think it is on purpose though.

Owen does it if he's excited, or focused.
I think it's pretty normal.

LO does it too along with kicking his feet. I say he is excited or playing.

I think it's normal. N will grab at and scratch the bag of her head (violently almost - not like she just has an itch ) when she gets frustrated.

Mine kinda punches herself in the jaw (not hard though). My daycare told me that its likely teething related.

Mine does that while teething. She hits her ears while teething too (no ear infection- we checked)

Alex does this too! I am constantly clipping his nails to try to minimalize the damage.

I am so grateful for this post! MJ started doing this and I was freaked out! Teething pain makes sense. I can see those little whites start to come up through his gums!
