Cough - how long until you call pedi?

DD has had a cough and some congestion since last week (Wed.)

We've been doing the steamy shower once a day, saline drops, the bulb aspirator when needed and she has been nursing plenty and eating slightly less solids than normal. 

No fever.  What else can we do?  Would you call pedi for this?

    Hi, my son had a cough for over a month, kept going to the Pedi and the Dr said he was okay.  Then, it suddenly turned to RSV.  It's hard to gauge when to know when to go, but I dont think it would hurt to have her checked out.  Hope she's better soon!

    I dont know about the cough, but our pedi said that if DS wheezes at all to call and she wants to check him out. He started coughing two weeks ago and was wheezing so I called and she put him on breathing treatments until the wheezing cleared up. She said that his cough could have been connected to the wheezing and that if it didnt stop in a few days, to call back.

    To ease you mind:  The wheezing maybe gunk stuck in his throat and he doesn't know how to clear it. 

    It has been going on for awhile so I would probably still take him in so they can listen to his lungs.

    I think that you could always call if it makes you feel better.

    I personally would only call if my DD had a fever, or if the cough got worse, or if her behaviour changed.  I've had coughs last for weeks before, and it's so hard for little ones to cough everything out.

    That's what my instinct is telling me.  It's not a constant cough and there is no wheezing.  It seems to be worse when she's in a horizontal position and when she first wakes up.

    I've also had coughs that have lasted for weeks and I know how to clear phleghm.  Poor DD, she keeps coughing and then swallowing whatever mucuous is in her lungs.

    I would probably give them a call, they may want to have you bring in DD to check out her lungs.  I've been back and forth for a couple months w/ a cough for DD and they had her on nebulizer treatments that have helped.

    DS had a pretty bad cough, it wasn't constant, but it was definately bothering him. We took him in and it turned out to be RSV, he also had an ear infection.  I'm glad we went it, he got some decongestant & antibiotics, he's been doing much better.  But, he just wasn't himself, I'd say use your instincts, if he just doesn't seem well, lethargic, etc...take him in.

    DD had a cold and cough a couple weeks ago.  We had her 6 month appt and she had the cough about the same length as your dd's.  I asked the pedi about it and she wasnt concerned at all. And said there wasnt anything we could do that we werent already (what you're doing too)

    I just went through this. My DD had a cough for a full week...called pedi and they said since no fever and still happy normal self to just keep up with the steam and all that.  But then two days later she stopped eating and was miserable. We took her to the doctors and she had a double ear infection and dr. said she was at end stages of bronchitis. I would call the pedi and take her. Especially with the holidays coming up - you don't want her miserable over the holiday.   Good luck!
