Re: Random survey not IF relalated

  • Very cool poll. Although I think we all need to ask for raises because I know we are the strongest most determined group of women which has to pour over into our careers as well.
TTC 2 years- Me and DH (28) with (severely) low sperm count- less than 40 total (last 2 SA showed only 5 and 6 sperm each)
    IVF #1: ER 1/23/13- 4 eggs retrieved, 3 eggs fertilized; ET with 1 embryo 1/28/13 2 frosties beta #1 2/5 was 4.8- beta #2 2/7 3.5; BFN
FET #1- transferred one beautiful 4AA embie. Praying this is my take home baby. Beta 5/7/13- BFFN!!!
    IVF #2: ER 7/17/13: 6R/3F- transferred 1 blast and 1 10 cell embryo 5dt.   Beta hell.  #1 2.5, #2 2.2- BFFFN! REALLY?
IVF #3: ER 12/1 and only 2 retrieved.  1 fertilized with ICSI.  Was planning on transferring one fresh and one frozen....fresh was only 14 cells at day 5...CANCELLED and devastated due to 5cm blood filled cyst in ovary and blood in uterus.
IVF #4: Antagonist protocol with endometrial scratch day one of stims.  ER 4/21: 6R/4M/3F- transferred 2 beautiful blasts (5dt) and one was hatching!  No frosties but hoping we won't need it!  Beta 5/4/14- 444(8dp5dt), Beta #2 10dp5dt 1002!  THIS HAS GOT TO BE IT!!!!!!!!!!  First US 5/15 we saw two of the most beautiful gestational and yolk sacs I have ever seen!
    ****FINALLY PREGNANT WITH DI/DI TWINS!!!!!!!

BRINLEY AND RILEY LONG.  Born November 20, 2014 at 32 wks 3 days.  4lbs7oz and 4lbs5oz.  1 month NICU time for "B's" and growing and feeding.  Now healthy, thriving, beautiful little girls!

  • I am definitely underpaid for my education and experience, but that's intentional on my part.  I don't want a higher paid position because that generally comes with more responsibility.  I just don't care that much.

  • I run a daycare and my husband is a mechanic. We have indep. Insurance but are lucky to be in MD where they require some coverage....so we have 3attempts at 50%coverage.
    Our Novel of TTC:

*Male Factor (low count and low motility), High Prolactin, and Polycystic Ovaries (March 2013)
*Recurrent Miscarriage testing also revealed high anti-phospholipids & single MTHFR mutation. (Feb 2014)

    *IVF (07/2013): BFP-Natural Miscarriage @ 5 weeks* <3 Madison Riley <3
    *FET #1 (10/2013): BFN
    *FET #2 (12/2013)- BFP-Missed Miscarriage at 8 weeks <3 Kyle Andrew <3
*Chromosomes and Karotyping tests were both normal. We lost a healthy baby boy :(
*FET #3 (04/2014) was cancelled after finding Chronic Endometritis
*Miraculous BFP July 2014!! (I was taking baby aspirin and Cabergoline to stay regulated while "taking a break from TTC" and waiting to consult with a reproductive immunologist!!!)

Our healthy baby girl was born 03/10/15 thanks to daily Lovenox injections and baby aspirin. There are no words for how grateful I am for our rainbow baby. <3
  • We are completely OOP unfortunately. I took a huge pay cut when we moved from VA to FL but we did it bc DH had a great opportunity for his job. Ultimately, I was hoping to quit my job at the hospital when I got pregnant...that clearly hasn't happened. We are also in the middle of starting a nonprofit that supports my husbands job but was kind of put on hold while we were going through IVF bc it was just too much to handle. There's definitely something to be said about enjoying your career...any idea what you may want to do??
2013- 2 IVF cycles with PGD to prevent genetic disorder from being passed on. Both BFFN :(
    2/2014 pregnant!  EDD 10/17/2014

something with meaning and be fulfilled in my career. I have a bachelors in business and lately feel so stuck. The salary isn't worth it but the benefits are.. My insurance has ivf coverage and they paid for 1/2 my degree which was 20k. I'm forever grateful but I don't foresee any advancements or even if there was if I would want it. Just mind dumbing stuff everyday :/ the poll has opened my eyes to see what people really make

Yep, we live in the middle of nowhere so my salary isn't comparable to what it would be for my career in other locations.

It is nice to see that the most votes so far are for 80+...that is great!  I agree that women need to realize their value in their careers.  Although I did go in not too long ago and ask for a promotion and got shot down :(  BUT...only a few weeks later I was approached by another group about a new position...we'll see...nice to at least be wanted :)

Also have to say that every time I read about anyone being OOP it breaks my heart.  To think that something this stressful has the added stress of financial decisions.  I am very grateful to be blessed with good insurance.  We do pay some...but to be OOP would be a challenge to say the least....and I certainly feel for those that are!

  • @braven985....it infuriates me that IF isn't covered through our insurance. We actually have pretty good insurance but the state of FL doesn't require IVF coverage. I'm always on the RESOLVE website sending emails to the senate and whoever else requesting coverage but who knows if/when that'll ever happen.

  • I'm actually very surprised to see so many of "us" making over $80K a year! I wish I was one of you!!! We live in an area with a high cost of living, and I still don't see that many people making that much. DH has a good paying job, and still isn't in that range either.

In a way, I think the fact that I was out of full-time work for 7 months will actually make it a little easier to budget in the future. We had to really think about what we were spending our money on, rather than just worrying about it later. The only debt we have is our mortgage right now, so we'd like to be able to keep it as close to that as possible. We're still going to have to finance at least part of our cycle (in addition to what we can save between now and then), but we hope to pay it off as quickly as we can. Of course, I'd rather spend money on a fancy nursery and buggy, but we wouldn't have the need for those without spending the money on IVF first!

  • I just want to add, that even though I am self employed, my H carries our insurance, and we are still OOP.

He is a federal employee, so we have great federal insurance, he is also a veteran, and we are eligible for VA health benefits, but b/c of the state we live in, IVF is not covered.

We are able to take advantage of a 50% military discount for one cycle, so we'll be paying around 5k plus meds for one cycle, so that might equal out to what insurances are covering?

Yup. I live in an area where the COL isn't too high so between my decent salary and DH's crappy salary, we do alright.  Although if you actually considered all of our "costs" this year (including OOP IF treatments), we are definitely operating in the negative.  Thank goodness we had a lot of savings and were able to refinance and use the equity in our house to fund IVF #1 and 2.
