Need the right foods

I hate meat. The only kind I like is lunch meat and that is out. I try everything I can to get protein in the day, but just not doing it. I don't want to do proceed foods, but I feel like I have to sometimes. I can't eat nuts. I tried. I feel so sick afterwards. What have you been doing for your protein or nutrition? I feel like I see more what not to eat out there than what you should eat.

Re: Need the right foods

  • Hi! Are you anti-dairy? Lately I have been eating cottage cheese (in large amounts) right out of the container. You don't have to consume a lot to receive a decent amount of protein. I also make my scrambled eggs with milk now just to add some more nutrients to my diet. Eating healthy can be so frustrating at times esp when the food's not appetizing

  • I am in the same boat... Can't stand any meat what so ever (since becoming pregnant) I've bee eating Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus, string cheese, and hard boiled eggs to meet my protein requirements as well as drinking chocolate milk or adding almond milk and Greek yogurt to my smoothies...There are also supplements you can take if need be
  • hummus, string cheese and eggs for me too. I'm pescetarian normally but since pregnancy have been weird about certain fish/cant stand eating it. I'm going to talk to my dr. about putting protein powder in smoothies. I've heard it depends on the kind whether or not its ok and want to confirm everything first!
  • Beans/ lentils?  I am getting better with meat but was like this in the beginning.  I have been searching vegan boards on pinterest for recipe ideas.  I can handle meat much better if I don't have to cook it.  Cheeseburgers/ tacos have been edible...does the thought of them gross you out?
  • The only meat I seem to be able to eat right now is hamburger. I will be watching this thread to see other ways to get protein. Great question!

  • I'm trying to get milk in any way I can. I've started drinking Boost again like I did when I was under weight. Cheese and yogurt. Making my oatmeal with milk.

  • Edamame with sea salt! Yum!
  • Eggs! I have been craving them.. On English muffins, in salads, and with breakfast sausages
  • Chickpeas! Half a cup is almost 20g of protein and they are good in salads.. or you could go for hummus which is made from chickpeas and is good on veggies.  Also seeds, nuts, beans, quinoa, lentils, edamame...
