Delivery Between 32-34 Weeks

I will give a little background....I'm pregnant with b/g twins due March 9th. But I had pprom and a water break at 26 weeks. I went through the magnesium, antibiotics, steroid shots, etc. The babies still have fluid and look good. I will be 28 weeks tomorrow. We were told if everything continues the way it has, we will deliver between 32-34 weeks. I know every pregnancy and newborns are different but if you delivered around this time, what did your twins weigh and how long were they in the NICU if at all?

Re: Delivery Between 32-34 Weeks

  • My water broke at 34w. I had had steroid shots previously. My boys were 5lbs and 5lbs 8oz and both spent 13 days in the NICU as feeders/growers.

GL and I hope those babies keep cooking!

  • I delivered (induced) vaginally at 34 and 0 days due to IUGR. 4 pounds 15 oz 17 3/4 inches and 4 pounds 1 oz and 17 inches. NICU stay was 14 days basically just feeders and growers and body temp since B dropped down to 3 pounds 2 oz. I had steroids at 26, 28, and a booster at 32 weeks. They would have been there longer if it wasn't for me fighting to start skin to skin and to have my babies snuggle together and be next to one another in my arms and start trying to BF. As soon as they let me my little boys gained weight rapidly and latched on super well. They are a month and one day old and although still in preemie cloths and just little peanuts but they are doing fantastic! Hopefully they stay put for a while! T&P!

My fraternal twin boys. Born Sept 2013.
  • I had pprom at 31 weeks and delivered via csection at 32 weeks when meds were no longer stopping contractions.

Baby a - 3 lbs 6 oz and 5 weeks in the nicu.

Baby b - 4 lbs even and 4 weeks in the nicu.

Breathing and eating were the big hurdles to going home for us.

Good luck! Let me know if you have specific questions.

  • Mine came at 33+1 with only one steroid shot on board. They weighed 3lbs4oz and 4lbs even. My 4lb guy needed a few days of mild oxygen(the day they finally let me hold him he stopped needing it, seriously) They were both in special care for 21 days, most feeders and growers, obviously my 3lber needed a little help with body temp but not for too long!! I honestly attribute being able to hold them all the time as part of what got them home so soon!! My littlest came home at 4lbs .01oz!! They were amazed at how well they did!! So be an advocate and try to be skin to skin as much as possible and hold them together as much as they will allow, mine loved to be face to face-literally!

  • I had PTL at 21 weeks with a cerclage and strict bed rest. I was admitted at 33w 2d when my water broke unexpectedly. I delivered via c section at 33w4d and my boys were 3lb 9oz and 4lb10oz. They were in the nicu 10 and 14 days, mostly for feeding and growing. Good luck!!

  • I delivered at 32 weeks 4 days due to severe preeclampsia. I had one round of steroid shots.

Baby a was born vaginally, weighed 4 lbs 3 oz, 17 inches long, and spent 26 days in the nicu.

Baby b was born via c section, weighted 4 lbs 5 oz, 17 inches long, and spent 35 days in the nicu.

Mostly spent time as feeders and growers with minimal oxygen assistance. Good luck keeping those babies growing. You're doing a good job mama!
  • I PPROMed at 29w2d, and I made it to 33w4d before going into labor and delivering my twins vaginally. I got the steroid shots when I was admitted to the hospital.  Baby A weighed 4lbs5oz and Baby B weighed 3lbs8oz.  Both were born breathing room air and never needed assistance breathing.  They were both in the NICU for 23 days just as feeders and growers.

Good luck!!  You're doing great so far.

  • My ID girls were born at 32weeks 5days due to sIUGR via C Section. Baby A was 4lbs 8oz and Baby B was 3lbs 3oz. They came home on the same day after a 17 day NICU stay. Only needed CPAP for 6 hours :). Baby A just needed to learn to suck and B needed that and to regulate her body temp since she was such a peanut. When they came home A was still under 5lbs and B wasn't even 4lbs yet!!

Good Luck! This will all be a far away memory one day!

  • I delivered at 34 weeks exactly. My boys were both 4lbs 10oz. J spent 20 days in the NICU and D spent 27 days. They were in ICU for 5 days and then moved to the feeders and growers nursery for the remainder. Hope your little ones stay cooking as long as possible!

  • My boy/girl twins were born at 34 weeks due to preeclampsia. They were 5lbs 8 and 4lbs 8. Both spent 9 days in the nicu, my girl as a feeder grower and my boy because of some breathing issues. Now at just over 2 weeks old they're both doing great

  • My girls were born at 32wks6days due to me having preeclampsia. I was put on bedrest at 24 wks and hospitalized at 27 wks for contractions and shortening cervix and got steriods then released and readmitted at 31 wks for strong contractions and dilation then preeclampsia got severe and delivered via cs and baby a was 4lbs even 16 1/2 in and baby b was 3lbs 15oz 17 1/4 in and they spent 2 1/2 wks in the nicu. And came home under 5 lbs. Now they are 4 mths and 12 and 13 lbs! Trust God and He will see you through this. This was definitely the scariest and most painful thing I ever experienced but id do it all again in a second.
  • Thank you to each of you for sharing your stories and experiences! It really helps to have an idea of what we may be looking at.!!!

  • I had the babies at 34.5 wks.  Landry weighed 4.2 lbs and Hudson weighed 5.9 lbs.  They were both in the NICU for 14  days for eating a growing.  They also had two episodes where they stopped breathing and recovered on their own so, that bought them both 10 days automatically.  Sounds like your doing great...keep up the good work!

  • I delivered via emergency csection at 33 weeks due to my water breaking and I had also been in the hospital for 7 days prior for severe malnutrition of me (the babies were perfect), extremely low hemocrit levels which I needed 3 blood transfusions, severe fluid around my heart and very severe swelling.
I had the steroid shots 5 days before my water broke. Baby A (girl named Christina) was 3lbs4oz 14 inches and baby B (boy named Stephen) was 3lbs7oz 16 inches. They were in the Special Care Nursery for 4 weeks but only for growing and learning to feed.
They are now 3 months old (1 month adjusted) and are doing amazing! Christina is almost 9lbs and 20 3/4 inches and Stephen is almost 11lbs and 21 3/4 inches!
