Missing that first year…..

Anyone else been missing the newborn days? I've been so hormonal this past week…thanks rag….and have been reminiscing when my LO was a newborn.
I was packing away some of his clothes that no longer fit and I started to tear up. I can't believe how much he's grown. Then I started to look through his newborn pics…so tiny and precious. God I miss those days! I exclusively pumped for a year and I'm even finding that I miss that! Crazy, right?! I just miss feeling like he needed me for my milk. He's getting so independent now.
Am I alone here???

Re: Missing that first year…..

  • Not alone at all. I feel the exact same way! It's funny, but I agree about actually missing pumping too (I exclusively pumped for 9 months before the well went dry). I never thought I'd say that! Caroline is little miss independent lately and mama is not cool :(

  • I may be in the minority, but I like the independence she has now. I enjoyed her being cute and tiny as a newborn, but I am really enjoying this stage so much more. She has a lot more personality, and is a lot more fun. I don't miss waking up every two hours and all the screaming she did. Maybe this is because she was not an easy newborn?
  • I don't miss the first few months. In fact, they were an absolute nightmare due to LO's premature birth and the accompanying issues, severe reflux and PPD. I might feel differently if I had a full term easy, cuddly baby. I by far prefer this age and it keeps getting better.

  • Every new phase has it's ups and downs. DD2 is our last baby so I get a little sad knowing she's only going to get bigger. But more than that my 5 yo seems so big and it's going by so fast. It seriously seems like yesterday that she was a newborn.

  • Yes and no. I miss the cuddles and how tiny he was. I do not miss the reflux, waking up all the time and all the crying.

  • I don't miss last year. I was an emotional wreck! It is bittersweet to see pictures from last year, though.
  • Looking back at pictures and seeing how much he's grown and changed does make me a little teary, but I wouldn't go back!  I love watching him experience new things and do things independently.  But like some of the other PP's said, he also wasn't the easiest baby!

  • Nope.  I had a non-cuddly baby who was very independent from day one.  I was not big on the needy newborn thing, which I knew from the get-go that I wouldn't be.  I'm a very practical, non-mushy person and so is my DH.

Having a toddler running around is way more fun that having a baby!  I know I'm in the minority, though.
  • Uh, wut?  Not. at. all.  I guess I'm weird but I never get teary about "my babies growing up" or think it has gone by so fast.  It has not gone by fast at all.  3 years ago before DS was born seems like a LIFETIME ago, and even before DD was born seems like forever ago.  I never understood these "newborn cuddles" people speak of.  For me it was having to hold a miserable baby all the time & they still weren't happy.

  • I miss it. I loved the newborn stage so much, even with the sleep deprivation.

I really, really didn't enjoy 3 months on...to about 7 months, if I'm being honest. I like the stage he's at now because he's so funny, but I definitely get a wave of sadness if I look through his young baby pictures.
  • I just can't believe how fast time is flying.  I don't miss the floppy newborn, but the days when he would lay on his play mat and kick and coo at the toys moving above him are definitely what I miss from time to time.  Now he doesn't sit still, but I still love this age because he is just a little sponge!

  • there are days that I miss it more than others but like others have said I love the independence of this stage- she wants to try things and do things for herself her way and it's amazing to watch! :)

I love watching her do new things- recently she has been eating with a fork- it takes forever, but she's so determined to do it and tries so hard and does a great job!!

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies! I certainly love all the stages...it just seems like he was a tiny little newborn one minute & then BAM! TODDLER!! So when I get a minute to reflect, I can't help but get emotional. I've always been a mushy, easily teary person. lol I guess it may be time for #2!!
