River, for a boy?

So DH and I have MAJOR issues with boys names. Neither of us like anything. It's sad. I have a short list, but DH only likes two names on it, so I am starting to look at boy names now to get a jump on it because we are SO screwed if we have a boy in the future...

I recently heard a Dad at the park calling for his son River, and loved it! I know it's a legit name, and I have heard it before, just never thought about it until the other day. What are the BNB thoughts on it? I tend to like "out there" names (Hence Basil) so that isn't an issue for me.

I'm sure this name has been talked about, but the Bump search sucks.

My only association with the name River is Doctor Who's River Song, so I assumed it was a girl name. That being said, I can see it working on a boy. I think I like it.

I know nature names are not everyone's cup of tea. We, on the other hand, love them. We also have Violet, Poppy, Olive, Cedar, Jasper, Ivy and a few other nature names on our list.

I mentioned River to my husband and he liked it, and I said something about "if we had a boy.." and he goes "Oh, on a boy? Huh..." Um... River on a girl? Weird......

It's our boy name if we ever have a boy. DH is obsessed, and it took some time to grow on me (the River Pheonix association initially threw me) but two girls later I am completely 100% sold that if we ever have a boy he will be River. I love nature names and I feel like River is not something you hear often, but its still approachable.

Plus it would be adorable with Basil.

I don't like word names in general, but this is one I particularly do not like. It falls into the trying-too-hard-to-sound-cool category for me

I'm obviously a DW fan, so I can see River on a girl (also there's River from Firefly), but then there's River Phoenix, so I could see it being a boy name too.

It's NMS as far as baby names go, but it's nice.
