flu shot

Ds just had his 6 month appt. We are 2 weeks behind due to him being sick at his 4 month appt. They did not have the flu shot and the doctor stated he would just get his next year. She didn't seem too concerned. I remember someone mentioning a shortage awhile back. Anyone else not able to get the shot for their lo? Should I be more concerned? I did get one while pregnant so he does have some immunity. Dh and myself both got the flu shot along with my family since my mom watches him while I work.

Re: flu shot

  • That would not be acceptable for me.  My pedi said when a baby gets the flu it often requires hospitalization.  I would try to get it.

  • You can go to Target, CVS, or even a grocery store and get one.
  • you can schedule an appt at walgreens for it. It's normally around 20-40$ out of pocket. worth it, IMO.

  • Call places like walgreens, cvs, target, etc first because a lot of them cannot administer flu shots to people under 18.

Unfortunately, most of these places don't administer to babies. Usually over 18, some over age 5 when I was calling around. OP I have heard the health department does them, but I would really try to push and ask your doctor how you can have your baby vaccinated. Your flu shot you received in pregnancy would offer a very small amount of immunity to your baby, but that was for last years flu. Baby would need another shot this year, just like you need another shot this year, because the flue strains change year to year.
