Pregnant after 35

Birth Story

Sorry it took so long.

I went in Nov 27 for my scheduled induction. A woman came in just as they were about to take me back and she was in labor so she got my room. We waited an hour before they finally got me in.

I was hooked up to the IV and we waited for the doctor. Another hour later he finally arrived and ordered they start the pitocen. This was about 11 am. It didn't take long to kick in full intensity and I realized I needed the epidural. The epi didn't hurt and at first I thought it was the best thing ever but then I got a hot spot. They topped off the epi and lowered the pitocen and it helped at first but it didn't last. I was in so much pain I was begging for some relief. They topped off the epi one more time but the pain eventually returned on both sides instead of just the hot spot. It was awful. Instead of having contractions with a break in between I was in constant pain. I also got sick and threw up several times.

This went on for hours and when they checked me I hadn't progressed much so when my regular doctor came on at 6 pm he ordered they up the pitocen again. That got me going and at about 11 pm I was 100% and ready to push.

I was already so exhausted from hours of constant pain but I gave it all I had. My mom was on one side and DH on the other and they cheered me on. Damnit I tried so hard. I pushed for 2 hours but she just wouldn't descend.

I ended up having an emergency c-section and at 1:50 am Thanksgiving morning Madalee was born. I got sick again on the operating table and threw up while they were putting me back together. It broke my heart that I couldn't hold her. DH put her up to my face and all I could do was kiss her.

I lost a lot of blood and my bp tanked so I ended up needing a transfusion. They were very worried about me but eventually I pulled through.

We stayed in the hospital for 4 days. It was 2 days before I could even try to get out of bed. I was trying to nurse but Madalee was losing weight so they finally had us start supplementing with formula.

Since returning home I've started to heal and I'm getting around better but we are really struggling trying to nurse. A low milk supply and issues with her latch have really given us a hard time. At this point I'm mostly pumping but I'm not completely ready to give up. I have to pump every 3 hours. It's exhausting. I keep telling myself the most important thing is that she gets my milk, however I have to go about giving it to her.

So that's what happened and in spite of it being the worst day of my life it was completely worth it and I would do it all again.

Being so sleep deprived I won't be checking in here often so I want to wish you all smooth and easy deliveries! I will probably move over to parenting over 35 board eventually but I'm sure I'll lurk here as well to check on you.

I want to thank you all for the wonderful support you gave me throughout my pregnancy. You really helped me get through some challenging times. All the best to you!!! Hugs all around!!
