Fisher Price Rock N Play sleeper???

I've heard great things about the Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper... So I put it on our registry.

Does this take place of a swing, pack n play, and bassinet???

I was also going to register for a pack n play for our bedroom for the first couple months, but if this rock n play sleeper does the same thing I'd rather register for one over the other.  Thoughts?

  • I've heard amazing reviews about it from people who've actually used it. I haven't yet. But, I bought a twin pNp and I'm getting one of these too (maybe two). It didn't rock on its own, you push by hand, though I believe it does vibrate. No bouncing.
I'm not sure why everyone loves except it elevates babies while sleeping (good for reflux and babies who won't sleep flat), so I'm anxious to try. But everyone I've talked to gives it 100%.

  • I had both a RnP and a PnP. The PnP i used for night time sleeping and now that she's older i use it for her bed when we travel.
The RnP i used for naps during the day. It worked great for us.

  • hmm we have all 3 and have gotten good use out of each of them.  I would say at the least get a swing as well as the rnp (and then later you can get a pnp depending on when you want your baby to move to the crib). The swing is good for keeping them occupied for a little while and since it plays music and rocks on its own (the rnp does neither) its a little more entertaining for them.

  • Our DD had reflux and wouldn't sleep in bassinet so we used Rnp and it was a lifesaver for us! I'm hoping not to use it again for nighttime sleep this time if not necessary (reflux again) as I think it was a hard adjustment to go to the flat crib. I don't know what we'll use yet for nighttime sleep....maybe co sleeper or pnp.

  • The rock n play can replace the pack n play only to a certain extent. You can't use it passed 20ish lbs and once your child starts getting mobile, they can get out of it. Our DD slept in it until 6 months and then one night I woke up to her half way hanging out of it. It was scary!

Up to that point it was a life saver! She LOVED that thing and we used it more than I should admit. She liked hanging out in it to watch me cook and clean, she sat in it while we ate dinner until she was big enough for a high chair and also to hang out while I showered until she was big enough for the exercausor.

We also have a pack n play because we travel often and use that for her crib while we are away.

That sounds more like improper care than manufacture defect. Mold will grow on anything if you leave it wet constantly. The cover is removable - take it off and wash it if its wet, and wipe down the plastic part. Problem Solved!!

Yeah the recall is only for them to teach you how to properly clean it. We have 3 rock n plays (1 for each daycare provider and 1 for us) and none of them had mold during that recall, but what can I say? Your kid pukes in it? You clean it!

  • We actually didn't use the bassinet. We used the pack n play in our bedroom, the rock n play well everywhere and the swing in the living room.
  • I love our rock n play and wish we had gotten sooner for dd. I think we got it when she was 9 months..? Anyways we do still have a smaller swing, a bug swing and a pack n play. Never really use/d the pack n play but still actually use rock n play and when dd was littler always used big swing. Smaller swing was at in laws

  • Someone gave us ours and at first I thought we wouldn't use it much, but my daughter really loved it. We used a bassinet when she was born (on wheels) and would leave it in the living room during the day, then at night, move it to the bedroom by us. When we got the rock n play, we used it instead. She liked the rocking motion that the bassinet didn't offer, but I felt like it couldn't be comfortable to be always sitting up (sort of) when she slept, so I used it for naps and such, but not every nap and not at night unless she had a cold. It certainly didn't replace our swing, though.

On a side note, DO get one, because when they're congested, it will give them tons of relief to sleep in and works way better than trying to wedge a mattress (and then eventually sliding down) or making them sleep in a car seat (hate that concept!). So much better for that!
  • Thanks everyone!!! I'll def register for the RnP, swing and a PnPlay. I just didn't want to fall into the FTM mistake of registering for everything if there were some things that could replace others.

  • I got a question about RNP vs bassinet. The RnP seems so much more convenient to fit in our bedroom and move around but it seems so different than a flat mattress. What do you think on that matter?

Well it is different than a flat mattress, it's inclined.
It's just about whatever you are comfortable with. I know far more people who used the RNP for naps AND night, and had no issues transitioning to a flat crib mattress later on, than I know people who had issues with that transition. I wouldn't hesitate to use it overnight, but if you're not comfortable with that then get a bassinet or use a bassinet in a PNP. Personally I would never get get a stand alone bassinet, but we travel a fair amount and the PNP is invaluable to us, so we just use that.
Thanks for the reply! I registered for both so we'll see what we get and then try out what works for baby.
