How did you feel between 28 and 32 weeks?

I am an elementary school teacher. I climb stairs several times a day (I'm on the 2nd floor and everthing includig the bathroom is on the 1st floor). My doctor has left it up to me when I leave. I will be 28 weeks during the Christmas break and 30 weeks when school resumes. I'm debating between leaving next week or staying til mid January. Any advice is appreciated.

  • I finished work at 26wks (preschool teacher, 16 three year olds, no stairs) and was on hospital bed rest at 33wks.

Your body will let u know what you can/can't handle.

  • I only made it to 30w4d, but I felt like crap. I also have a job where I had to be on my feet a good amount. I agree with amylou, if you feel good now you might be able yo make it longer.

  • I was a teacher too, and I'm impressed you've made it this far! I hit a major wall at 30 weeks, and this was even after I had stopped working. Listen to your body and keep in mind that things can change very quickly, especially toward the end. If it's not too much of a financial strain, going out at Christmas might be a good transition point. GL with your decision!

  • I'm a nuclear medicine tech and my plan was to go part-time at 32 weeks.  I had PTL at 30w and was on bedrest until my water broke at 32w and I delivered.  I did my best to take it easy and not rush around, but I did/do wonder if I could have kept them in longer had I taken an earlier leave.  Hang in there and take it easier if/when you can.

  • I got kicked out of work around 27w (PTL).

I felt okay, but walking was a real challenge at that point.  I mostly sat at a desk at work and didn't have to deal with stairs or anything.  I had the advantage of scheduling meetings in my area and making everyone come to me.  I was planning on working at least another two weeks because I felt pretty good when I got kicked out by my doctor.

So just take it day by day.  See how you feel.  Best laid plans and all... this is something that you really will have a hard time giving a firm date for.  I started telling my boss if I thought I'd make it another two weeks to my next doctor's appt.  The day I was written out of work was a doctor appt day.

  • It started getting hard for me around that time. I wasn't working outside the home, but a SAHM to a 5yo. I eventually got put in modified bedrest. Had I been working I know I would have been out on bedrest sooner. And I had a ratively easy pregnancy.

I have a friend, though, who was a teacher and pregnant with twins and worked until her scheduled c/s at 38 weeks.

  • I am crazy and I'm still working, I'm an RN and I work night shift.  They have modified my work assignment so I'm not running around like crazy with all the traumas (I work in the ER) now I just triage patients that come in.

I think you just have to listen to your body I knew when it was time to modify my assignments somewhere around 30w.

  • I teach 6,7,8 grade math. I'm 25 weeks today. It's exhausting, but I am hoping to work as long as possible. I try not to use the stairs if I don't have to. I sit as much as I can, but it's still a lot.
Really looking forward to Christmas break.
  • My water broke at work at 34w. I started WFH 2x a week starting at 32w. It wasn't the job that was hard - desk job - but the taking a shower/getting dressed/commuting 45min each way that was doing me in. Ugh, really just the commute.

My wall really was 31-32w. It just got hard to do simple daily tasks after that.

  • I worked in an office until the day my Dr decided to admit me to the hospital at 32 weeks. I wasn't on my feet much but was really struggling at that point. In hindsight, I should have quit sooner as it was too much mental and physical stress.

  • I was an ophthalmic tech.  I worked up until 35 weeks and then I just couldnt handle the walking anymore although I wished I hadnt stopped so early because I sat on the couch being bored for 5 weeks

  • I'm 29w and my company practically shoved me out the door this week by setting me up w a complete home office here at the house. I feel great but it's nice not to have to deal w getting up, dressed, commute, etc. It's lonely, though, so I plan on being in office 2 days/week til it becomes too much.
  • I think it would be easier to transition to a long term sub at the break versus coming back for two weeks and out again. And unless you are impacted in some other way, the two weeks won't make a difference very much one way or another and you may as well put those feet up and watch a couple movies while you can ;)

I started struggling right around that time. (First grade teacher). I ended up on bed rest at 31 weeks which turned into severe preeclampsia at 32 weeks 4 days so I delivered them.
