Pack n' Play confusion

Sorry if this has been asked already...tried a search, but it was unhelpful.

I'm a FTM and am getting a Graco Pack n' Play with newborn napper.  I'm having a lot of confusion about the mattress needed for the bassinet for when the baby is over.  It sort of looks like it comes with some sort of "mattress", but I imagine it is pretty thin and inadequate.  Do you need a separate mattress for the bassinet and the playyard for when the baby is older?  Or does the bassinet mattress work for the play yard as well?  Any guidance would be appreciated!

Re: Pack n' Play confusion

  • Mattress that comes with it fits both bassinet and play yard.  I am not planning to purchase any additional mattress at this time.

  • The mattress it comes with is padded slightly and to be honest, is about as firm as a regular crib mattress.  You can use it as the bassinet or the play yard.  You don't need any additional padding.  What you can do it get a quilted pack n play sheet.  It adds a small amount of padding.

  • The mattress that comes is the same. The new born napper is a padded extra that clips on to the rails of the PNP. I found that my PNP masters kind of domes in the middle over the release mechanism so I've padded under the board mattress with a big towel folded into quarters.

  • I purchased a quilted mattress pad for the pnp and then put a sheet over it. As pp said, it's pretty much a quilted sheet.

  • I put a thick sheet down at first and when my son got to 2 months i put about three blankets down to make it more comfy for my son. He's teething so he ends up chewing on the top blanket.
  • I don't think you have to purchase anything extra, the mattress that comes with it is fine - I love the pack n play https://amzn.to/1dCO4cN . it's great for newborn and toddlers too. Great for guests
