Ultrasound of C-Section Scar Yesterday-- No VBAC for me now...

I'm 36 weeks and 4 days and yesterday I had an ultrasound to examine my c-section scar to determine the risk of uterine rupture.  Apparently a measurement over 2.8-3.0 is good.  At the first place they measured, I was 2.8.  In another place I was 2.5.  In the third place I was 1.1.  Based on that measurement alone, the doctor said no VBAC for me.  I was so disappointed, especially, with the appointment/measurements starting so well.  Then to top it off, they are worried he's measuring too small, so they are going to schedule the c-section for as early as next Friday!  Feeling disheartened, discouraged, and like no one else can understand exactly how I'm feeling.

Anyone else out there been told this same thing?

    So sorry to hear that! I hear a scheduled C is easier to recover from, on the bright side, and you'll get to meet your LO soon. 

    If you don't mind sharing, how many months has it been since your first CS?

    I just had a VBAC on the 28th, never did I have an ultrasound to measure my scar.

    I had a VBAC last year and my scar was never measured.  I had heard about it (my friend's doctor did a repeat c-section due to this reason) and brought it up to my midwife.  She said that of courses your scar is going to thin out but saying that its thin and your not able to have a c-section would be like telling pregnant women who have stretch marks that they have to give birth now because their skin is going to rip open.

    I asked both a dr and a midwife at my practice if they do an ultrasound of the scar for that reason since I'm hoping for a VBAC (20 months apart) and both said they don't do that because they have not seen any conclusive medical research on those results, they just monitor you more closely during labor. I agree with others on possibly getting a 2nd opinion - sucks so late in the game though.  Good Luck!

    I haven't heard of them doing an US of the scar. I will be asking prospective doctors about this before picking one.

    I had never heard of a family centered c-section. My doctor automatically did all of this, except I didn't get to watch. Chad did though.

    I asked our specialist when we went for our a/s about ultrasounding our scar before birth. He said he won't because there isn't a reliable way to measure the scar and as long as you are in a safe and prepared environment to vbac, he recommends it.
