Infertility

Why, o why, did I POAS at 5dp3dt? Feel free to yell at me....

I have no patience! My husband told me not to POAS before the real blood test so while he was sleeping this morning, I did it anyway. Of course it came out BFN. Argh!!!! On the plus side, the hcg trigger is out of my system but why the F am I so impatient?? And on top of that, I also have no patience for line readings so I buy the digital ones that spell out Not Pregnant so I just pissed away literally like $9. Also, I want to just keep POAS every day from today until beta. My thinking is that we just blew a large wad of cash on this (ivf #3) - why not buy the expensive tests..what's another few bucks? Please feel free to yell at me for all of the above. I know I'm an idiot... TIA :)

  • I am in no position to tell you to knock it off, as I did the exact same thing myself for IVF#1. I will caution you that I completely regret torturing myself like that. After the horrible experience of seeing daily BFNs, I vowed that I'd go beta or bust for IVF#2. Sadly, IVF#2 got canceled before ET, so I haven't had the chance to execute the plan. Good luck to you either way you choose to go!!

  • The past 2 times I POAS the day before my beta. I regret even doing that. I totally feel your impatience and it's so hard to wait and not become consumed by it all. It's SO hard. This time around I will be waiting until my beta day as it's the 26th and I don't want to ruin my holidays.

Bottom line is do what you feel is best for you and your own sanity. GL!

  • Don't do it! It's early right now which is why you probably got a BFN, but seriously wait until your beta day! I went to my beta and then came home and tested so I could prepare for the phone call and find out in privacy, but it would have been way too stressful to test and keep seeing negatives and still have to go in for a beta and keep doing meds!

  • @runcc37 - you just made me realize that compulsive testing is a way to exert control over a process we have no control over. I think I'm going to keep peeing bc it's my way to manage and have some control over what I'm feeling which is incredibly doubtful and sad. Ugh. I'm so sorry that your #2 got cancelled. It sux and is so unfair. You are incredibly gracious for replying. I'm in awe of u.

That is definitely too early!  I didn't test until 9dp3dt and that's when I got my bfp...it was faint at first too and DEFINITELY would not have been there at 5dp3dt.  Also digital tests are often not as sensitive.  My word of advice is to try to hold out if possible.  I kind of wish I had waited for beta even though I got my bfp because it made the 2 day wait to beta sooo long.  Easier said than done though...GL!

You gotta do what you gotta do. Control is an illusion... it will be what it will be. For me, it started as testing out my trigger and that turned into a slippery slope. I couldn't stop myself. Everyday, I would go through the cycle of testing, seeing a BFN, feeling devastated and crushed all morning/afternoon, and rallying to find some hope that it was "too soon to turn a positive." Wake up the next day, and do it all over again. I was miserable, and even though waiting and wondering is absolutely TORTUROUS, I think I'd prefer that to what I did to myself for IVF#1.

If you're going to test daily between now and beta, then I'd recommend that you don't use digital. If you're able to spend the $$ then FRER is the best way to go. If you want to go with cheapies, then avoid blue dye tests (they have a history of false positives). Good luck! And I hope you see your second line soon!

  • I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I am only 3 days-ish past a Day 2 Transfer :\"> and was already contemplating POAS. It's soooo hard to wait, but it helps to read from those who have done it in the past and said that it only made it worst. I just hope the next two weeks go by quickly!
