am I the only one...

...who doesn't wrap a blanket around my baby's face when we're outside in cold weather? I saw many parents coming into the mall today with heavy blankets wrapped around their children's bodies, heads, and faces--like COMPLETELY wrapping or covering the face, so you can't see an inch of skin. It just looks dangerous to me. Am I being a nervous Nelly? Am I putting my child at risk of frost bite?? It does get to -40 here...

Re: am I the only one...

  • I just throw a car seat canopy over my LO. No bundling up here :)

  • I just put a toque on her when it's really cold and a blanket thrown over the car seat. I don't think bundling is needed just running from the car to a store.
  • I wish we could still use the infant seat, but I have to move him now from convertible car seat to carrier or stroller. It's a PITA.

@samanthaashley93 this is what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm just paranoid because of the SIDS risk.

  • I bring my baby outside when I go out to play with my older son. We live in buffalo and it has been cold here. I never cover his face. I think it is silly. Unless there are super strong winds and rain and snow whipping around there is no need to cover their face. I just bundle him up good and put a hat on him.

  • We always have a hat and thin fleece coat on her and use either a blanket or the stroller bag to keep her warm.
  • We just put a hat on and a jacket or blanket around his body. BUT I live in Texas so it doesn't get that cold.

  • I usually have a blanket over him in his car seat and then drape another one over the handle for getting in and out of the car. I do that when its raining too.

  • We live in similar climates @Stef1210 and when she's not in the car seat she usually has a toque and coat on and if it's really cold I put a blanket over her but not over her face.

I thought toques only referred to the fancy chef hats and couldn't understand why anyone would put them on their babies. Good to know about the knit hats!

    Classic!
  • @ChelsRy1 that is adorable, let's put all babies in toques!

  • I read the word as Toke... And it makes me giggle. Is it said that way?
Almost! It's like "Tuke" (rhymes with Luke)

  • We get -40 degree weather here too and I don't wrap Ns head/face with a blanket :/ I'd rather her get cold than risk her not breathing. I bundle her up in warm clothes, a toque and a blanket. I'm usually just running from the house to the car and then the car to wherever and it doesn't take long. I also have mittens for her and if we are going to be outside for a longer amount of time in that weather, I have a snowsuit for her (wont be worn in the carseat, no flames please).
  • I only knew what a toque was because my husband lived in Calgary for 2 years and that's what he calls hats.
  • I just put the blanket over LO's body and feet, but he often grabs the blanket himself and pulls it up over his face when we go outside. Then he usually lets it go again when we get back inside. I guess someone's trying to let me know he is cold!
  • Toque is French, isn't it? Same with poutine and some other words we have/use.
  • @maelara Yep, pretty sure it's French. It's the same word in French, anyway. And mmmm... poutine... Did you see McDonald's is now selling it? I don't think I'd like it with their Fries. They're so greasy already.
