Holiday baking!

Let's use this thread to share our favorite holiday baking recipes.  It's like a virtual cookie exchange!

I love to bake, and I hardly baked any holiday treats last year because of the whole I-have-a-tiny-baby thing.  I did sugar cookies with my mom one day and gingerbread at my house another day.

This year, I am making ALL of our traditional treats, including:

Re: Holiday baking!

  • I'm making these for an exchange this weekend. The cookies turned out great. I haven't dipped them yet but I can't wait to try them fully done. https://cookiesandcups.com/puppy-chow-cookies/

My grandmother used to make these Czech cookies every year at Christmas. I have find memories of baking with her.

  • I make sugar cookies, peanut butter blossoms, chocolate chip cookies, oreo truffles, and the little jam thumbprint cookies.  Maybe some others.  I will have to take a look at your recipes and maybe try a new one, too.  In past years I have put them in little treat bags for my coworkers but now that my office has nearly 30 people, I think I might just make a big tray and leave it in the office kitchen.

My grandmother is Czech too. She also used to make these every year. Now my mom does, along with a nut roll my grandmas used to make.
  • These little treats are so easy, but so good. They are homemade turtles. You place a Rollo candy on top of a round or square pretzel, bake in the oven on low heat just until the Rollo are soft, then push a pecan in the top.

Rollos are the jam!  I may have to try this.
  • Started with peanut butter blossoms for my work party tonight.  Many compliments and disbelief that they were gluten free.  Other than unwrapping all the Kisses, they are so easy to make!  These were some of the first cookies my mom taught me to make, probably because they are almost foolproof.
  • I don't know what it's called but it's super easy and taste like fudge. Melt one can sweetened condensed milk with one bag white chocolate chips. Get two packages of peanut butter cups and cut into chunky pieces. Layer the bottom of a deeper cookie sheet with the peanut butter cups, pour melted chocolate and condensed milk over the peanut butter cups then sprinkle another layer on top. Place in the fridge then cut up when it hardens. I use wax paper on the bottom of the cookie sheet. Easy and quick and yummy:)

They sell naked kisses for this purpose. I like to think I'll use Howell for a little slave labor when he's big enough, though. My Dad always talked me into those menial little tasks.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • My favorite are these chocolate cookies with peanut butter filling.  We don't have a name for them, it's just a simple chocolate peanut butter cookie dough, with powdered sugar mixed in with peanut butter, then you make little balls and form the chocolate dough around it. HUGE hits every year.  They are the best.

I also love Peppercockers, they are mildly sweet and just remind me of my grandmother.  She never used cookie cutters, she would cut her dough in random shapes and say they were states. Hahah

  • Chocolate Crinkles
    Sugar cookies
    Pizzelles (Italian Waffle Cookies)
    Lemon Squares
    No Bakes
    and dark chocolate macadamia nut!

    I'm so excited! :)

My sister and I always thought it was the best thing ever to count the number of cookies, and unwrap the right number of kisses and have them ready when my mom was making them :)
