Bath time hell

I keep thinking at some point we will take a bath with no tears.  As long as we use no soap and don't get his head wet he is fine any talk of soap and he has a fit.  I have tried lots of products to clean him but they all "hurt his eyes and ears".  He has taken swim lessons and loves to swim he can even go under water and retrieve stuff.  I'm at my wits end on giving a bath we now go 4-5 days with no bath because it takes so long and everything gets soaked from the splashing and fight to wash him.  We have tried showering with him other people giving the bath it just doesn't go well.

Re: Bath time hell

  • Will he wear goggles? We had a phase like this and it seemed to help. Also we have had DS do a back float in the tub so his head is back in the water and then wash his hair that way. Then it doesn't go in his eyes. Good luck!

  • He will not wear goggles and I have tried the back float thing (works in the pool)  I wish it as a phase but it has been going on for two years there is no reason he can't have a bath and the the soap doesn't hurt eyes I put it in mine to see.

  • I know it sucks, but maybe it's better to keep to a routine of a night time bath rather than drag it out 4 to 5 days.  Beside the hygine factor, I think it helps they know it's coming everynight and not something they can cry they're way out of.  DD has gone through phases of loving/hating the bath.  Sometimes we'll do no tv or snack till after bed.  Other times it's a scream fest, everyone and everything is soaked, but she's clean.
  • Does he want to do more of it himself?  Have you tried a bath visor thing to keep water out of eyes?

  • He does use the bar of soap on his lower body by himself but he doesn't like it anywhere near his head.  I have not tried a visor will have to buy one.
