Strong name, or just weird?

As soon as we found out we were expecting, we came up with girls name, no problem. Boy names have been really difficult for some reason. We have come up with two, I like them both as they have a celtic/gaelic feel, but I really don't want to be the mom who saddles her poor son (if that's what we have) with a ridiculous name. I like that they are somewhat different but not insanely uunikque. I have said these names so many times and I just need to hear other opinions as to whether they are too far out there.

Brecken is not as familiar and would cause me to inquire after the origin of the name if I met one.

Rowan Michael or even Rowan James. I'm sure you can tell that I like Rowan a lot, but not Brecken.

I like them both. Rowan is way more popular, however, I don't mind Brecken at all. For me, I think of Breckenridge, a hugely popular ski resort in Colorado.

We live about an hour from Breckenridge, which is one of our favorite places to ski. It was one of the reasons we were attracted to the name.

@kellyjayne, well that makes since. I am from Colorado as well so that's why I thought of it! I think it's a fine name. If you are looking for something that people don't hear a lot, that would be it.

I kind of like Brecken. You could call him Breck... Kind of cute, not too crazy. I think Rowan is nice and I know a Ronan, which i like too.

I love Rowan on a boy. I don't like Brecken because it makes me think of bracken/brackish, although I've seen it suggested for a girl and that's even worse.

I don't think now would be a great time to name a kid Ronin, what with that Keanu Reeves movie coming to theaters soon.

I greatly prefer Rowan to Brecken.

My husband's grandfather is actually named Breckinridge, NN Breck. It's a family name, I think. IDK if you would want to go that route since people might think you were naming him after the town, but I think it's a strong, old-fashioned name, very gentlemanly, if you are looking for variations on Brecken.

Rowan is fine. I really dislike Brecken. (I've been to Breckenridge and it's lovely.) It seems too trendy and made-up and has a harsh sound. It makes me think of the shampoo first of all, and sounds kind of like wreckin' or breakin', or like pp said, brackish.
